Small 4-6 unit multiplexes shouldn't require the same governance and reserve requirements as 200-unit condos.

Other jurisdictions (including BC) have simpler, more lightweight ownership structure for small multi-residential buildings. ON and Toronto should take a look!
Multiplexes are finally legal to build in Toronto, but the rules for how they can be owned and sold haven't caught up.

I hope Perks doesn't take too much pride in this and start repeating it as job done. It's because of a complete collapse in private construction, which the city is at least partially responsible for.
Formally introducing the Planning & Housing items on the agenda, committee chair Councillor Gord Perks highlights a factoid: "As of today, 65% of all housing under construction in the City of Toronto is either led by the City of Toronto or has the City of Toronto as a partner."

Weird how none of these tickets are amongst the "stats" from the Premier claiming that 32,000 Toronto tickets are for going 2 km/h over. It's almost like the minimum is around 10 km/h over and the Premier just made up some nonsense that wasn't true.

I get a lot of stuff wrong but my early call on all of this was that it's simply wrong to engage in this as an argument over congestion policy. I said on the podcast that it is, instead, an argument over who has the right to public space — and the Premier has decided the allocation.
I don't want to shock anyone, but I don't think that removing the bike lanes is going to improve congestion. The provincial government is putting people at risk for a few parking spots in midtown Toronto.

🚀 Announcing Build Toronto

Toronto is Canada’s largest city, its economic engine, and its greatest opportunity. If Toronto thrives, Canada thrives. But we all know the city faces deep challenges: unaffordable housing, strained infrastructure, governance gridlock, and a lack of urgency.

There's a line of thinking that NIMBY opposition wouldn't happen if only the building had family sized units/affordable units/was small enough/was for seniors/was some particular style/gave community benefits. And I'm here to say that I've seen virulent opposition to all of that in Toronto.
