not breaking new ground with this observation but I think the high schooler canard of "Why am I learning X if I'm never gonna use it in real life" has become an extremely successful piece of rhetoric & is being affirmed by the algorithmic media landscape, hustle culture, the influencer industry, etc
Generative AI, in both form and content, and whether looked on favourably or critically, seems to embody a collective hopelessness about the prospect of human learning and creativity, if not human knowledge altogether. It’s as if climate change had fans.

People underestimate joy as a political resource. It pisses off all the right people & allows us to move toward practically imaginative solutions.It’s powerful to say, as Mamdani does&others should,I love these people/this place&we’re going to make it thrive.Political version of twirling on haters.
Honestly, I’m beginning to wonder how much of the Mamdani Hate is due to his actual politics vs the fact that he seems to embrace a politics of joy, in a country that feels almost permanently mired in a politics of self-reinforcing despair and fearmongering.
The *current mayor* of NYC is VERY VERY NOT ANGRY about how successful #zcavengerhunt was. Don't put on social media that he's angry.
