Many politicians obsess with “growth”, but growth of what?

“The economy” they might retort - but what part of the economy?

GDP is an appalling measure. It rewards many destructive dynamics alongside good dynamics- and with politicians hellbent on increasing it by any means - we’re screwed.
Myth #4:
GDP is the correct measure of progress

Reality:
GDP tracks spending, not wellbeing or ecosystem functionality

Implication:
Our main cultural goal is focused on costs, not benefits
