This paper states that the “rise in left-wing terrorism” in 2025 is a *relative* increase, and that the relative shift is primarily driven by right-wing terrorism falling off a cliff. Perhaps that’s because the right-wing terrorists joined ICE?
Indeed, a dramatic decline in right-wing incidents in 2025 has contributed significantly to the relative increase in left-wing incidents. So far, 2025 is the first year in the CSIS data where the number of left-wing incidents is greater than the number of right-wing ones. The left wing is blamed for five or so terrorist attacks through the first half of the year; 10 would be an extremely high number for the blue trendline if it kept pace. Meanwhile, the right wing is blamed for an average of about 20 per year over the past 10 years, but this year there’s only been one. I think it’s because the far right knows their guys are in power so they don’t have to do anything extra.
