No doubt, Zuckerberg ditching Meta factchecking to please Trump is shameless. Meta will become evermore like fascoid cesspit, X. But it's also beyond time to retire liberal stories about disinfo & fact checking as a weapon against fascism. @theintercept.com theintercept.com/2025/01/07/f...
Facebook Fact Checks Were Never Going to Save Us. They Just Made Liberals Feel Better.

There’s a kind of bigotry that’s utterly invisible to liberals because it’s directed at women. In this case, it’s a blame the victim argument that says women have been too aggressive about refusing to tolerate sexist behavior and therefore we’re to blame for men being misogynists

Thank god somebody wrote this. That Richard Reeves book suggesting that men are moving right because women are criticizing sexism is toxic and too many people who should know better keep citing it. www.nytimes.com/2024/11/20/o...

May 5-11 is Emergency Preparedness Week in Canada. Take some time this week to go through your emergency plan (or put one together if you don't have it yet). Go through the emergency contacts; see if names/phone numbers need to be updated.

The rate for single-father households increased as well — but by a much smaller amount.

That circumstance in the life of every person living with chronic illness and therefore limited spoons: you have an important event coming up so you can't do anything in the days prior so you won't use any of the much needed spoons 🥄🥄🥄

There's this really cool event happening in my city tomorrow. It's like pub crawl but for art/architecture organized by the city's art gallery. I signed up for it. After I got my confirmation email, it occurred to me to email back to make sure the bus was accessible.

For the record, making any disability benefit contingent upon or even affected by a person’s relationship status should be illegal.

It is certainly immoral, and a lingering remnant of the same Eugenics ideology that is behind forced sterilization and the excessive ease of assisted death programs.

A friendly reminder this Labor Day that unions didn’t win weekends and the minimum wage and laws against child labor and sick leave by being nice, polite, or respectful. They won by fighting. They won by striking and struggling and being radicals. And we have to do the same.

Please, able-bodied/non-disabled people: erase "special needs" from your vocabulary [I'm looking especially at able-bodied/non-disabled parents of disabled kids]
Disabled people’s “special needs” were not created by disability.
“Special needs” were created by ableism.

Accessibility shouldn’t be an afterthought or seen as a favour to disabled people. It’s essential and should be built in to all areas of public life as standard to avoid this cycle.
