1. Alert, and please share widely. A lawyer at the ACLU has asked me to inform my transgender readers that they should NOT be applying for passports right now - the state department has not issued guidance to comply with the court order and they are urgently trying to get them to do so.
🧵
I am getting multiple reports that the Trump admin is NOT complying with the court order requiring passport updates for transgender people.

Some passport agencies are being told not to give trans people passports with their correct gender marker, for now.
#Trans folks in the US who are reapplying for their passport to be fixed. Don't bother. Just had an emergency appointment today (I travel on the 30th) and they cannot issue me a corrected #passport. All decisions regarding this 'issue' are on hold until they receive guidance from the head office.

I will never not promote libraries, they are a vast public good and worth celebrating for themselves, and also they buy lots of books, which keeps a whole bunch of authors in the business. Please support them!
I recall you promoting libraries as well, as long as we're reading.

One of my tools as a critic had been a Twitter list called, "Top Journalism Linkers." Designed so that I could survey the space. It was the first thing I read in the morning. When I left it had 6.8K users.

Over the weekend I rebuilt it for Bluesky. You can subscribe. bsky.app/profile/jayr...

New — The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) was told this week by DOJ that they'd lose their funding if the org didn't remove any mentions of LGBTQIA+ issues from their public materials, I've learned. Staff were told they need to deadname trans kids in their reports to comply.

We just launched a 16TB archive of every dataset that has been available on data.gov since November. This will be updated day by day as new datasets appear. It can be freely copied, and we're sharing the code behind it to help others make their own archives of data they depend on.

Today we released our archive of data.gov on Source Cooperative. The 16TB collection includes over 311,000 datasets harvested during 2024 and 2025, a complet...

Support local libraries. We’re witnessing censorship on a massive scale. Digital scrubbing is modern day equivalent of book burning

Our ability to get accurate info about public health, science, history, LGBTQ & marginalized groups is under threat

Libraries will be critical part of the resistance

Second weekend in a row that I get a #GLAMR -adjacent sticker in the mail. This one's from #JohnnyDecimal who teaches us how to apply decimal-based #classification to our whole life.

I usually leave a new laptop sticker-free for a few months. I've had this MacBook Air for over a year and have finally broken it in with a #sticker from @molly.wiki, which arrived last week and is even more timely now than when I ordered it.
