I saw somebody on AOTY saying people shouldn’t compare Lorde’s new music to Melodrama, but with respect, that’s the consequence of making the best pop album since Rumours by Fleetwood Mac. That’s always going to be the comparison point.

Really beautiful essay here. I think it draws a really interesting parallel between the very 2000s instinct to hate art for teenage girls with the fear of coming out too late.
It also identifies the absolutely true fact that Diablo Cody is as much a girl’s girl as a screenwriter could be.
