Quiet evening. Fire burning low in the stove, cats dozing on their pillows, full moon lighting clouds before the next storm. Power went out last night from the fierce winds. Lovely darkness, peace (once the Trumpist neighbor turned off his generator). Even tho I depend on SNAP, I feel serene.

Did you catch our Signs of Fascism protest at yesterday’s Friday Night Market? There are many ways to resist and a silent vigil is one of them. Stay tuned to see where we go next… #resistfascism

Eureka CA showed up for Make Good Trouble yesterday. I'm proud of our group for organizing and our community for turning out--estimated 350-500 folks.

BTW, that's me being inarticulate in the beginning.

Replenishing my spirit with a walk near Trinidad this morning. Trees and creeks and ocean views help. Make sure you get outdoors, too! I mean, why the fuck are we fighting if not for the nonhuman world?

Inspiring reminder that each of us has the power to make a difference. Viva la resistance!

Our Signs of Fascism group held a one-hour silent vigil at the Eureka 4th of July street festival. It was frightening to be so vulnerable but our trained safety marshals diverted all hassles. We got many Thank Yous and an amazing amount of being ignored. It was powerful nonetheless.

Please share widely. If it were in my power, this would run as a full-page piece in every U.S. newspaper! Thanks.

Today, these moments were my version of living Wendell Berry's "Peace of Wild Things". Some time in my garden with Pippin, who thinks Nirvana is when we hang in the garden with her.

Eureka CA showed up big time. The police estimated 4000, which is HUGE for us. My group is the 3rd pic from the end; we're in black holding signs of fascism. We got a lot of thanks. There were more of us earlier, & we hope to take the display to future events. lostcoastoutpost.com/2025/jun/14/...

I am in downtown Los Angeles right now and it is completely surreal to hear that Trump is sending Marines here. We are listening to mariachi music. People have dogs. There are teenagers here. It is utterly and completely peaceful. Please tell your friends.

A friend who lived through South African Appartheid said that the breakdown of the regime seemed impossible until it wasn't. And every action made a difference. You do what you can to stop the immoral government and each such action is important. Eventually the government can't hold on anymore.
The protests & slowdowns & leaks & refusals to comply & boycotts & strikes & antifascist art & gumming up the works & sanctuary projects & all the other stuff that we’ve got to run all at once have to feel like that too.

Break their hold bit by bit.

Here, there, & over here too, until - whoosh.
It's hard to overstate how destructive the reflexive "this is a distraction!" stuff that politicians and commentators and people are always peddling.

Everything is happening all at once. That's how authoritarianism works. If you can't navigate and synthesize this, you're not meeting the moment.

I could use some guidance out of my despondency. Attending the protest planning meeting helped. But I bet Rebecca's book would, too.

Local action yesterday against Avelo airlines flying for ICE. Just don't read the comments. Our local comments crew are horrible.

Spring! Picked scapes off the garlic and harvested my first artichoke. Newborn lambikins across the street, sweet-smelling roses in the kitchen window, plums setting fruit, the garden in full flower.

Excited to've found a group of local activists with whom to fight fascism. Currently focusing on stopping Avelo airlines from transporting deportees for ICE.

Meanwhile, I cheer myself with the belief that there are more trees than humans. And the neighborhood ewes are birthing lambs. See the baby?

Looking forward to May Day protests! Our big one is on Saturday, but I think there's a smaller one Thursday that I'll try to join. I'm not a sign carrier (hand/shoulder issues), but this would be my sign if I was:
