Happily childless cat lady, queer ally, avid & eclectic reader, retired editor and professional organizer, long-time practitioner of simple living, and steward of a tiny swath of river-valley habitat, focusing on gratitude, kindness, and being helpful.
Quiet evening. Fire burning low in the stove, cats dozing on their pillows, full moon lighting clouds before the next storm. Power went out last night from the fierce winds. Lovely darkness, peace (once the Trumpist neighbor turned off his generator). Even tho I depend on SNAP, I feel serene.

Replenishing my spirit with a walk near Trinidad this morning. Trees and creeks and ocean views help. Make sure you get outdoors, too! I mean, why the fuck are we fighting if not for the nonhuman world?

Our Signs of Fascism group held a one-hour silent vigil at the Eureka 4th of July street festival. It was frightening to be so vulnerable but our trained safety marshals diverted all hassles. We got many Thank Yous and an amazing amount of being ignored. It was powerful nonetheless.

Today, these moments were my version of living Wendell Berry's "Peace of Wild Things". Some time in my garden with Pippin, who thinks Nirvana is when we hang in the garden with her.

I am not allowed to harvest my garlic without proper supervision.

Spring! Picked scapes off the garlic and harvested my first artichoke. Newborn lambikins across the street, sweet-smelling roses in the kitchen window, plums setting fruit, the garden in full flower.

Excited to've found a group of local activists with whom to fight fascism. Currently focusing on stopping Avelo airlines from transporting deportees for ICE.

Meanwhile, I cheer myself with the belief that there are more trees than humans. And the neighborhood ewes are birthing lambs. See the baby?

My sign got lots of positive attention at today's rally. 😀

Went with my other half and his mom 2 years ago. It was heartwarming to watch him see it for the first time!

My farmer neighbors pasture their meat poultry on my pasture. The turkeys are moved to fresh grass daily, and will free range once they're too big for hawks to take. The sheep have one job: mow that tall grass! I get the +s of livestock without the responsibility. Yay!

Went out to the coast today, near Orick, CA. Enjoyed the gray on gray of clouds and waves, cow-calf combos in pasture, Redwood Creek joining the ocean, and the magnificent driftwood. Sometimes ya just gotta get away from humans and reconnect with Nature. Grateful to live in coastal Humboldt!

Definitely a sucker for cats. My big guy decided to sit on my lap after coming in from the rain. Good thing mud washes out easily!

Gone 25 years as of today. Franci Gallegos, nee Solnit (yes, THAT Solnit) was a brilliant, feisty, challenging woman. She directed plays, taught high-school English, fought lumber barons, counseled draft resistors, marched in the streets. Difficult lover and mother, but a great activist. ❤️

K-CHO cooked again! Meatballs, tomato sauce, rolls, stuffed squash, white bean soup, kale chips, salad, eggs, muffins. Still searching for the name of our cat-statue mascot. But a neighbor cat, Loki, made his maiden visit to our kitchen. Friendly guy, heard rumors of cat treats. Rumors were true.

Am feeling deep grief over the illegal deportation and imprisonment of people by ICE et al. This is the beginning of the horror my father's parents were killed by. I don't know how to stop it.

I want to devour a box of chocolates. Instead I walked 3 laps round my back field in the sunshine.

Need a break from the news? Today's Kitchen Collective made: Roast chicken w/taters & carrots; beet/white bean/goat cheese salad; a rainbow of veggies to stir fry; & the usual hard boiled eggs.

My young girl enjoys it, too!

Enthusiastic turnout at the Eureka CA women's day rally today, and lots of cheerful honking by passersby. It warmed my heart and strengthened my hope.

Kitchen Collective strikes again!

Spinach mushroom lasagna and stuffed manicotti; rosemary focaccia; spinach balls; hardboiled eggs; asparagus risotto; salad fixings.

We have a lovely park with Redwoods and a duck pond. Got in a 2 mile stroll along the paths, and saw a couple of gorgeous wood ducks at the pond. Here's a male and a female, I think a mated pair.

Sometimes Cymbalta ain't enuf to counter depression, which is really grief. Time to practice gratitude! For a sweet home, art, cats, friends, abundant good food, explosion of spring flowers, clouds, birds, and millions of citizens fighting for their country's survival. What's on your gratitude list?
