get councillors to state publicly what they will not support when nominations open. the same can be done for Oireachtas members. get this scumbag publicly ruled out before it can even start #speirgorm #aras25
I don't think it's controversial to suggest that the way that Ireland has developed a particular culture around the Presidency doesn't exactly look particularly republican. We would have handled a constitutional monarchy just fine #aras25 #speirgorm

This truly just sums up the Ireland in which we are living.
It's no wonder people aren't simply "moving the dial", they're just switching off.

when I was born, my father suggested I be named John but my mother disagreed, as there were already enough John Mc Mahons, she said. So you can imagine how I felt, many decades later, when doing geneaological research, when I found another John Mc Mahon, who died in France in 1916

In my first year of college in UCD, I learned to specifically tune up my 'regional accent' any time I met someone I felt suspicious of. I felt their reaction was a good judge of character. Bleedin mad yoke Dubs tended to pass the test. Caught out a few D4 goys, though not as many as I had assumed

gonna go out on a limb here but I suspect the current govt is sitting on a bag of crises quite similar to the penalty points, whistleblower, GSOC etc scandals which hit Kenny's govt a decade ago. And they will all burst now that Martin looks wounded by Yates #speirgorm

Tonight's even more proof the mainstream reporters who are still on Twitter are suffering from a brain problem akin Havana Syndrome that is preventing them from accurately doing their jobs. They are being cooked alive by a snuff-focused apartheid algorithm.

If a PBP TD said that there were too many foxhunters in Ireland and then there was a arson attack on a hunting lodge that night, you can be damn sure that Simon Harris could join the dots.
He really should resign.
He really should resign.
Nash: “I'm in no way saying that there's any causal link between remarks made by politicians last week and a criminal act here at Drogheda, but people need to be sensitive with their language…. They need to be responsible.”

Bad enough arson against immigrant centres became standard practice for racists.
Bad enough we've already had race riots.
The Taoiseach & Táinaiste poured petrol on all the above during the week, & we shouldn't be shy in saying it.

Haven't read Mantel before but I already know I'm in the hands of a master. Really gives lie to the whole 'no spoilers' aggro - she has told me a good chunk of the story before I've even read the first line. She is confident that these details will not detract from my enjoyment of the tale to follow

The far right will eventually kill someone or lots of someones if our pathetic government does not act now to stop them … first step would be for politicians, including Government ministers, to stop repeating far right racist rhetoric #speirgorm
Firefighters rescued five people, including three children under ten, from the top floor of an Ipas centre in Drogheda last night after a major fire.
Gardaí have preserved the scene while the cause of the blaze is investigated.
