Okay, folks. I’ve been asked by a lot of friends who aren’t following the AI discourse to sort of clarify what the main camps are arguing, how they approach the issues, etc. As a thoughtful observer, I’m happy to provide this orienting service. No questions or comments, please. Hope it helps!

I really don't understand why European cities would jeopardize their (very good!) transport networks by introducing robotaxis.

If you needed another reason to buy Gunner Heat PC, they recently did an interview on AI usage in gamedev and their response is absolutely worth highlighting:

"First of all, the proliferation of LLMs and other generative AI products is an active, top-down consolidation of power by tech capital."

I'm bracing for Republicans to cite Abundance as a reason to gut car safety rules.
Why am I not surprised. “Senate Republicans in January plan to criticize requirements for safety technology, arguing they are ineffective and will unnecessarily drive up the cost of cars, according to people familiar with the situation.” Pedestrian lives, on the other hand, are cheap

You should definitely never download and remove DRM from your Kindle books, that would be highly unethical. So definitely never do what's described in this guide. Outrageous! www.reddit.com/r/Calibre/co...

Amazon’s killing a feature that let you download and backup Kindle books
It’s bad if you like to keep ebook backup copies.

What I hope you take from this is that you actually need to help people get to where you're at. That is work which *you* have to do. You cannot simply say "it's not my job to educate you"

I understand it's exhausting and many people truly should not have to take that on. But those who can should.

What I think is getting lost here is that people actually need reminders about... everything.

This may sound like a dumb/crass comparison but almost every single person on Earth knows what Coca-Cola is and yet the company spends bajillions on advertising.

We need that reinforcement for civics.

Would you say those addicted to nicotine are "choosing" their cigarette addiction?

I think it's better to understand this from that perspective. People need help to make better choices and we had damn well better start helping them.

Okay lovely internet people, let me clarify that I mean actual talking. As in face-to-face communication, or maybe even a phone call 😲

The time to shy away from awkward discussions should, I believe, be far behind us.

Not to get all political on you but actually I do think you should be talking to people you know about this
cool how Project 2025 went viral during the election, we were told Trump disavowed it and wouldn't do it, he got elected and started implementing it immediately and now we're being told "well this is what people voted for"

they very explicitly did not
The people now in charge of the Office of Personnel Management apparently don’t know how to scrub PDF metadata, and have exposed the original authors of the guidance they’re publishing. Two, Noah Peters and James Sherk, have links to the Heritage Foundation and Project 2025.

I wish we could cultivate a culture where people get excited about and share the new skills they've learned more than the new stuff they've bought.

We're so so close to 10,000 signatures on our UK petition!
Thank you all to those who have signed so far, but we still need more to get beyond this!
Tell everyone you know about it and spread the word!

The demonization of the "filler episode" is what is making modern media fall flat. "What does this contribute to the plot?" It contributes character building and fun, what do YOU contribute? (Annoying white noise)

And that's the the crux of the problem. When my computer crashes, it stops working. When there's a render error, I can see it. Hell, if my heat stops working - my heat stopped working.

LLMs appear to "work" all the time, and the failure mode is only experienced later as real-life consequences.

The Vehicle Sandbox has been released! The entire project's page is basically a devlog of what I learned and what was interesting about the project so there's plenty of juicy details for those that are curious about it. Feel free to ask me questions!
