Hiya, Bluesky. I run local progressive campaigns and am a new-ish member of the Planning Board in Boulder, CO. I'm here to learn from your takes on housing, land use, climate, and parenting, and maybe to re-learn how to share my own. It's been awhile!

We were living in Vienna when Russia invaded Ukraine, and you, my US friends and neighbors, sent thousands of dollars to fund direct aid for displaced people. That's who we can and should be in the world.

I tagged along on a 4th grade conservation and agriculture field trip today, and it's just plain stupid how much we're going to lose by dismantling public science.

Have you ever heard of buying clubs? If not, a 🧵:

When I was a kid my family got together with a bunch of other families and placed a food order with a wholesaler called Northeast Cooperatives since subsumed by a company called UNFI which stands for United Natural Foods, Incorporated. 1/6

I’m taking the whole fam to their February concert…give them a follow to get your free tickets, and throw them a little donation for this delightful promo!
Well in light of recent... "weirdness" from a guy from that OTHER social media platform, let's do a thing 🦋

You follow us, we follow you, and we'll give you a promocode for 2 free tickets to an upcoming DPO concert of your choice 🎫

There’s been a lot of yelling about unplowed streets in Boulder of late, but this is why sidewalks should be the bigger story.
I can't remember the last time a crash hit me this hard. Whether you choose to see it or not, the policy of relying on property owners to clear sidewalks is an abject failure that costs people their lives at worst, and their ability to participate fully and safety in society at best.

This is really interesting. Groundbreaking study on the value of libraries and “third places.”

“A whopping 82% of people who used the library’s physical space and 79% of people who physically attended programs reported more optimism regarding the future, compared to only 58% of digital-only users.”

City councils often pay poverty wages, making public service difficult or impossible for many residents.

Boulder Progressives was the primary organization supporting fair council pay in Boulder, which passed an increase for the first time since 1989.

Impressive growth from CDOT's intercity Bustang service. In the last 3 months, Bustang went from 24 roundtrips/day to 66!

Now you can catch a bus every 45 minutes during peak from Denver to the I-70 ski towns, CO Springs, or Fort Collins for $10-12

Local meeting threads are one of the things I've missed the most since leaving the bird site, and this one is making up for lost time.
Evening, folks -- as promised, I'm doing my first Bluesky live thread of a local city council meeting tonight!

This one's a doozy: the affluent Bay Area suburb of Menlo Park is considering turning 3 downtown parking lots into housing, and people are *furious.*
