I think this meme is really relevant to our course :^) Diet fads have always and continue to always be a thing. It is important to always remember that restriction or overconsumption of foods is not good!!! D: @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I will always remember that packaging has NOTHING to do with the nutritional value, and that it is CRITICAL to check the credibility of whoever posts nutrition-related info out there on social media. I will always keep these two in mind when helping patients :D @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I will look at follower account and check the user's background! Big number /= credibility. During finals I will stress-drink smoothies that I make :"D Frozen bananas, strawberries, and coconut milk?? Delicious. If u want a less clumpy taste just use not frozen fruits :D #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Fluoride is in the news again with Utah announcing a ban on added fluoridation so I'm resharing my fluoride history & breakdown from a couple months back when the fluoride/IQ news that is driving recent anti- water fluoridation broke.

Hello! I wanted to share this article:

Our audience is kids and/or kids' parents, and I think of applesauce as a more common kids food. I shared this to show that making your own applesauce is far better than buying store bought! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I think this is interesting because we learned in lecture that it is hard to accurately measure factors in diet! @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
There's a lot of hype around dietary patterns research, moving beyond individual nutrients/foods - but it's also strikingly limited by the reality of diet quality in cohorts. Comparing Quint 1 vs 5 of intake is ultimately comparing a failing score to a modestly less failing score.

After reading the story, I am very sad & proud of Tom @ the same time!! I think the most important take-away is that we should enjoy our diet! Cutting out foods we love can make it even harder to resist. However, he really enjoyed his salad, so he could follow through :D #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I was surprised that Asians have the lowest obesity rate! I wonder if it is a genetic or cultural factor that is responsible. I think it's important to consider genetics & culture in discussing obesity so we can make the best treatment plan accordingly. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Sharing this because I forgot the first one was in 1894!! Whenever we feel bad about ourselves, we can feel a lot of improvement from the first dietary plans :D #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
If you want a very nerdy distraction from life, I'm doing a full nutrient analysis of the first dietary plans put out by USDA in 1894 for a review paper

A barrier for me is a lack of time. These days especially I don't have time !! Always running out of time. I have to thank my bf because I make lunch for us, so it forces me to make a healthy food :D Otherwise, I be eating my favorite TJ mochi snacks >:D

I wanted to share this since it's (interesting? sad? concerning?) that the food pyramid is even an issue? D: There are far greater issues at the moment... #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
MAHA nutrition advisor & chiropractor says the 1st nutrition issue he wants addressed is the 'food pyramid', a USDA food guide tool that was sunset in 2011 (it's been MyPlate since).

Glad to see we are finally taking nutrition very seriously.

I've always heard about keto and was curious on more! Is this the most popular fad diet? I think it's interesting it increases metabolic pathways!! I think it's important to note each fad diet DOES have pros, but that the cons are unnatural... so balance is key! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Woah this is so cool?? It's a 21 year follow up! I also think it's cool because seed oils are used a lot. Now we can use seed oils more and not worry about it (if I understand cause mortality...)

I can make my smoothies more nutrient dense by adding more fruits and nuts. They are already pretty healthy with these ingredients I almost always add: bananas, almond milk, ice, and one other frozen fruit :D #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

It was pretty accurate and easy since I can remember easily in the last 24 hours. Any more than that and I would be cooked! Nothing surprised me since I am lazy and don't have complicated dishes :D Also I will eat more/less depending on my stress levels!! >:D #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

This stood out to me bc in another course I had to do a presentation on anything food safety related. I was considering red dye, which at that point wasn't banned yet. I think it was banned in Europe somewhere. I have to check and do more research! :"D #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I'm a pre-med major and I'm taking this course both as a requirement for a BEH elective, but also because I took nutrition science before and I enjoyed it! I am curious why coffee affects everyone differently. Healthy eating is maintaining balance and my favorite food is homemade kimbap >:D
