I’m so thankful he instilled that preservation mindset in me!

Sharing a small fraction of his monstrous collection here (he has 3700 games, including many of TSR’s pre-D&D strategy war games)! Needless to say, between my video games and his board games, I’ve played a lot of games in my life! 6/6

I have my own copies as well & have played a few dungeons recently! The game was re-released in 2021 and has an app to act as Zargon now!

On a side note, I’m sometimes asked how I kept all my games. Because my Dad is a board game collector, he always encouraged me to keep my video games & toys. 5/?

Did you ever play HeroQuest? This was one of my favorite board games growing up!

My Dad collects board games and I reminisced on some of my favorites while visiting him for Thanksgiving, including HeroQuest! 🧵 1/?

The Great Palace theme is fantastic as well, although the closing theme gets me a bit emotional because hearing it was the culmination of many years of trying and failing to beat the game. It was a welcome melody after hearing Ganon’s taunting laughter for so many years! ❤️ 7/7

There were six Palaces plus the Great Palace for a total of seven.

The music in this game is incredible, and the dungeon theme is one of my favorites. 6/?

Happy 37th Anniversary to Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, released in North America for the NES on Dec. 1, 1988! 🎉 It released for the Famicom in Japan on Jan. 14, 1987.

I wanted to share this awesome canvas art of one of my favorite moments in the Zelda series I got at the PRGE this year!🧵 1/?

Happy Thanksgiving!

I wanted to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for your support. Thank you for being here and listening to me celebrate and reflect on my favorite games and memories, and for sharing your own stories with me. You warm my heart ❤️

Song of Storms is another of my favorites, which I frequently still catch myself humming.

The grand scale of the game, highlighted in rich environments spanning across stages of life is breathtaking. This beautiful game deserves all the praise it has garnered over the years ❤️ 7/7

The Temples and dungeons are incredible to explore and solve, each with unique challenges (and sometimes frustrations)!

The music is exceptional and heart stirring. I still love familiar tune at Start Screen, evoking yet building upon the iconic Recorder melody from the original game. 6/?

Twelve core songs for the Ocarina are uncovered, which enable progress through warping, changing the time of day, changing weather, and interacting with other characters. There is an optional thirteenth song that can be learned from the scarecrows in the Lost Woods.

She even went with me to see the 2001 Angelina Jolie film in theaters & named her SUV “Croft.” Yes, we name our cars 😆 What better namesake for an adventuring vehicle than a sharpshooting, treasure-hunting icon? 🤭

Tomb Raider’s influence on gaming is undeniable & it’s an incredible franchise ❤️ 6/6

I’ll forever be grateful for Tomb Raider, because it was the only gaming series my mom truly enjoyed. I couldn’t get her interested in Zelda, Mario, or Final Fantasy. Her first career was in archaeology (and she’s coincidentally British), so she was immediately intrigued by the game. 4/?

The game’s originally conceived protagonist too closely resembled Indy, so creator Toby Gard redesigned the character. He developed a concept where players could choose either a male or female protagonist but scrapped the male design to focus on the female character, which he preferred. 3/?

Tomb Raider released for PS1 in NA 29 years ago on Nov. 14, 1996! 🎉 It initially launched in Europe for the Sega Saturn on 10/25/96.

Eidos published a fantastic 3D action-adventure game featuring an iconic archaeologist-adventurer, Lara Croft, inspired in part by Tank Girl and Indiana Jones. 🧵 1/?

I did, though, learn basic wall-scaling & short push jumps between platforms. I still giggle that being a gaming nerd inspired me to explore such a challenging activity! I made incredible friends (many also loved Prince of Persia), & I went every week for over a year.

Highly recommended! 6/6

Funny story: when I first played Prince of Persia, parkour was gaining popularity (and even featured in PoP commercials!), and it inspired me to give it a try. I used to go to weekly “jams” at Balboa Park in San Diego. I never quite reached the skill level I hoped for. 5/?

Puzzles are solved through wall-running, jumping across pits, & evading traps. The time-reversing dagger lets players undo mistakes, which was a groundbreaking feature for its time.

I adore this game. Its story, romance, and adventurous gameplay all came together into an incredible experience.

The NES version might have done so for the sake of alliteration (which states “You've got to battle battalions of bullies by blowing and bursting billions of bubbles.” 😆)

There are a few endings. 4/?

If a bubble isn’t popped in time, the trapped enemies turn pink and move faster.

The soundtrack is delightful, and it’s wonderful that the game supports both single-player and two-player modes! Also, the NES cover refers to Bub and Bob as brontosauri, but they’re little dragons! 3/?

There are 100 levels of increasing difficulty, where players must trap enemies in bubbles and then pop them. When popped, the trapped enemies turn into bonus items such as fruit, and once all enemies are cleared, the dragons float to the next stage. 2/?
