Last year the MHF found that 18-24s are feeling more anxious than any demographic AND that 45% felt ashamed about it - again highest. Not feeling able to talk about anxiety is one of the principal escalating factors.
This sort of cruel commentary contributes precisely to that toxic brew. 1/3

"I genuinely think" is used as it automatically confers thoughtfulness. When it can just as easily denote genuine thoughtlessness.
Most people would never react like this, if a loved one of that age came to them in distress. Yet widen it to an entire group and this cruelty feels permissible. 2/3

Imagine the outcry if one posted about rates of dementia having risen by over 40% in the last decade, ignoring contributing factors, effect of the pandemic, rise in absolute numbers, etc. And just said "I genuinely think" old people are obsessed with being looked after and must be putting it on. 3/3
