But also, here's a broken pup for the sake of your mental health:

When the belly rubs are so good they glitch out and forget how to dog for a few minutes.

Have to nerd out for a moment over this piece of wood I had on the lathe earlier. The wild grain and spalting that showed up made me inordinately giggly.

Can't wait to see how this ultimately comes out.

Yeah, sometimes you have to stop and appreciate what's right in front of you.

Everything is awful right now, so here's a midsize ash bowl I'm working on, because art and creation matter more than ever.

This piece was from a large branch, and the grain is awesome.

Turning down a piece of the black birch we had felled. This piece was a high piece of trunk with two branches coming off it. Grain is WILD!

Going to try to keep as much live edge and bark as I can, while highlighting the natural grain of this piece.

First crack at a larger bowl in progress... About 7-in diameter from an ash branch that came down in my yard a month or so ago. Just need to hollow it out, and then let it finish seasoning a bit.

Small vase I turned from a random piece of ash firewood, initially just for practice. Was happily surprised to find some awesome spalting and wild grain patterns in the piece.

Just needs a bit more fit and finish before I put it up for sale.

Getting worked up, so here's a timeline glance: a bit of Spaulding Ash that I turned down just now.

Probably a candle holder or essential oil diffuser, but we'll see what the final product becomes.

My 7yo asked if I could make her a magic wand to go with her Halloween costume this year.

Yes.. yes I can!

A couple bowls finish off and ready to sell.

I continue to love this craft, and enjoy playing around with different designs, shapes, andi finishes.

The spalting in this ash continues to blow my mind.

For those that don't know, spalting refers to the dark lines appearing in the wood, which is the result of a fungal infection.

Fungal colonies release a chemical to seal off their area from other colonies, and those barriers are the black lines.

The pup has been satisfied, but for how long?
September 14, 2025 at 1:12 AM
The pupper, he is watching me...

From a room away I can feel his eyes boring away through my will, my focus.

The pup demands attention, love, and scratches, and I can no longer deny him..

Timeline cleanse:

The ash tree that came down in my yard recently has some incredible spalting, and I've been having a blast turning it down into various pieces.

Anyway, take time to look for joy in the world around you.

Because I believe it's important to share your failures as much as your wins, I present to you all: this fuckin' thing.

Hickory piece, started to make a lidded box until it blew apart on me.
