I was arguing with Republicans online 25 years ago. I thought they were full of shit back then too but I do seem to recall we were having actual debates about how best to achieve aims, not denying basic facts.

That's why they elected Reagan. It's not because he was smart (obviously). It's because he had a gentle smile and a nice speaking voice. That's why they wanted Martin Sheen 25 years ago. So mod the job. Let it be normal for an actor to have it, because it doesn't actually have any power.

But we all know what Scotland's malfunction is. Ireland are much better and crucially, are better at adapting to opposition. Scotland either work beautifully or they don't. Ireland can change in a game. Scotland's only change is between being awake and asleep.

Yeah... I suppose. But I look at the two teams and my money hasn't been on England before a game for... forever. Ireland are demonstrably better. Yet even some of the wins are weirdly close for me.

Not for the first time, reminded of Scott Hastings in indyref standing up during a seated debate and loudly telling the crowd, "nobody loves Scotland more than me" before spending an hour outlining how it was too shit to be independent. Also kids have no discipline which was apparently important.
