This line is some weird fantasy too...

“We need to demonstrate competence, and that’s most obviously around small boats,” [Dromey] says.

I'd like to see NHS competence. SEND competence. Equality competence. Green energy competence.
“The idea that squeezing a tiny elite of billionaires will pay for everything is fantasy and we do need to expose that.”

Good job no one’s ever actually said that - including me.

So why is Labour again repeatedly lying to avoid taxing the super-rich?

I already agree with this in principle - citizenship is an untouchable status or it is nothing - but also for reasons of prudence. “The Home Sec can revoke citizenship when he/she deems someone’s online output sufficiently offensive” is a v dangerous precedent to set with Reform leading all polls.
Hell, I'm not convinced we should revoke citizenship at all.

But certainly not for being a twat online.

Why is the far right triumphing across the West?

Because ordinary citizens are told they're trapped in a zero-sum game - competing with migrants for scarce resources.

This is a lie.

A failed economic order is to blame:

And today we found out we are closing in on overtaking Labours membership.

Absolutely insane.

Labour would have purged and smeared someone like Zohran Mamdani.

Wes Streeting's politics align far more closely with Andrew Cuomo.

The lessons from Mamdani are about how to defeat both the right - and the bankrupt "centre".

Why, you might ask, do the BBC and Sky News, casting their editorial guidelines to the wind, keep giving massive airtime to the far right, while shutting out leftwing voices? Don't their bosses understand the likely consequences?
Only one explanation now remains.
They do.
And it is what they want.

As of March 2023, the fuel duty freeze had:

🔹 Cost £80 billion in lost income
🔹 Led to 5% more traffic..
🔹 ..250 million fewer bus journeys
🔹 ..75 million fewer rail journeys
🔹 an extra 15,000 tonnes of NOx emissions
🔹 and 18 million tCO2e per year

[Hat tip: @garethdennis.uk]
The fuel duty freeze *has* to go. I can't tell you what should replace it for the EV changeover, but the freeze is a year-on-year tax *cut* because it freezes the tax's cash level rather than its tax rate. It is now unaffordable largesse to drivers who don't seem remotely grateful for it anyway
