I wish the public could read the heartfelt goodbye emails I received from colleagues leaving the federal service this week. The brilliance, kindness, and dedication of the U.S. federal civil service is unmatched. Their departures are a loss for me, but also the entire American public. 💔

The wild thing about this is every single one of these 5000 contracts has made it through layers and layers of agency review and been deemed "mission critical" precisely because the secretary is insisting on reviewing them. There are probably 1000s of others that the agency just gave up on.
Per a source, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who has required that he approve all contracts over certain thresholds personally, has over 5000 review requests on his desk. Apparently he approves around 15/day.

my heart breaks from the stories pouring in from federal public servants. This is tragic, cruel, and represents an existential assault on everything that so many of us have worked on for so long. I am enraged, and if you care about basic human decency or sustainability in America you should be too.

Word of day is ‘unasinous’ (17th century): united in stupidity.

A riff on ‘unanimous’: which comes from the Latin for ‘one mind’. ‘Unasinous’ means ‘one ass’.
