When children with autism engage in head banging, it is often a sign of distress. These behaviors can stem from frustration and/or sensory overload. Safe adults have empathy. Safe adults provide support by modeling calming strategies, which helps children learn to regulate in healthier ways.

My grandmother marched with MLK. My grandparents had bricks thrown through their windows, with death threats attached, for supporting him and his message. They taught me to always stand up for what is right, no matter the cost. If we stay silent, we contribute to injustice.
