MSG is legendary. Of course. There's also something to be said for watching the boys while standing at the top of Forest Hills with Manhattan as my backdrop. #phish

On the 81st anniversary of Stalingrad I'd like to recommend this wonderful book if you're looking to understand more about why the airlift failed and more importantly...the faulty logic that led up to it.

A short thread on the Munster Raid of 10 October 1943 and the portrayal of it by MOTA. The show clearly states (at 11.30) the aiming point and MPI is the marshalling yard in the town. You can see it bottom centre in this clear weather picture from the day of the raid.

On 28 October 1943 46 RTR's attack, supporting 38th Irish Bde, was postponed for 48 hrs because the ground was unsuitable as a result of days of heavy rain. 50 RTR reported that "the whole area was now like a morass". Both wheels and tracks struggled; in places only mules were able to get through.

Think 29h 16m from San Fransisco, CA to Eugene, OR is fast? This 1921 Buick ad thought so. 44mins faster than the train!

100 years later, the same car trip takes 8 hours.

First post on BlueSky, so let's start as I mean to go on with a photo of a tank.

Polls don't yet exist on here, so here's a simple question: WHAT MODEL IS THIS TANK?

The winner gets the right to wear a smug grin for the next 4 days.

Forward observation post at Longues-sur-Mer Battery, Normandy.

It was here that the scenes where Maj. Werner Pluskat (played by the brilliant Hans Christian Blech) first spots the approaching allied armada were filmed, in the 1962 classic, ‘The Longest Day’.
