My relatively low/medium brow travel literature binge continues…it is a crutch and a hiding place from the news I’m afraid…🤷♂️…and yes I have read Paul Theroux et al to the nth degree before anyone starts…😊👍

It always takes a while to get my head around painting figures even in a rudimentary fashion as here but he’s nearly done and I’m happy enough with him…a few bits to tidy up…

Hopefully this shows the quality difference between resin figures & plastic figures (the price difference reflects this as I guess it’s nearly 3 or 4 to one now 🫣). With the plastic painter I had to assemble his ladder to get him glued right to stand on it but am not sure he’s quite right yet..🙄

A realisation that has possibly been about four years in the making…I think I build models not for ‘the history’ that they may convey…I read books to scratch that itch…I think I build for a love of developing technique, fun & perhaps showing a bit of humour or pathos in my efforts at dioramas…🤷♂️

Messing about with this for another project…seems to be about the right height…10 cm in 1/35 equates to 3.5 m which isn’t far off…I believe it was meant to be 4 m but wasn’t always…🤷♂️

A thought about SM in general…to get anything positive from it you need to find a small ‘tribe’ of folks that love something you love…often hobbies perhaps…and mostly ignore all the other sh#t on here…just a thought though 🤷♂️😊

Added the rubber strip to the bins & a little subtle dust low down. Now need to paint this guy as a civilian having a cigarette that he may regret near the cylinders…🫣💥…

Forty MiniArt gas cylinders in ten different colours…completely inauthentic I’m sure but nice and colourful…lightly dusted with some Tamiya buff…👍

A thought from the U.K. about scale modelling…I have only been messing about with it for about four and a bit years. I love it & I like most of the folks on SM that I have met through it…I am approaching 100 builds…my one thought is just ‘don’t be unkind’ to folks in your own hobby…❤️🥃

Each to their own but I reckon I get as much joy out of mucking about with bins & gas cylinders as I do out of building armoured cars & trucks…

Two bins both painted with 3 metallics and then the one on the left had a flat clear varnish applied so it’s a duller, darker more worn looking finish perhaps. I like both but am now preferring the right hand bin a little…might try some hairspray chipping on the left one as a further experiment…🤷♂️👍

Hoping that a base coat of SMS jet black will help with whatever metallic or two I pick to go over it…SMS or Alclad most likely…let’s see…🫣👍

When the world news is almost universally depressing I always find a fairly lightweight bit of travel literature helps so I am straight on to this one next…🤷♂️😊
