It was 1997. You were just a kid; in over your head, caught up in events beyond your control. You trained so hard to make the school basketball team - and against all odds, you made it to the final! It felt like your entire life was leading up to this moment. Things might not have been great at home since your parents split up - and you’d been struggling with classes, sure - but here, on the court, with your team-mates, things made sense. And then that fucking dog arrived. The referee let the opposition have it on their team. Like it was a human boy. (It was wearing shoes.) You and your friends laughed at it, of course, because you didn’t know - but that morning, before the dog got involved, was as good as your life was ever going to get. You never made it to the college leagues, like you’d planned; shit, you’ve not been able to hold down any job for more than a few months. Every partner you’ve ever had left you. Your mother can barely look you in the eye. That dog was the best basketball player that the Washington Under-14’s State Championship had ever seen. And now, thirty years later, on the day of your second wedding, it’s come back to ruin your life again. HEARTS - Obsession: Emotions The dog dunked on you. Your encounter left you humbled and introspective; perhaps manipulative. SECRET: You have always hated every other player character. DOOM: You realise, with shame, that you are in love with the dog. CLUBS - Obsession: Toughness The dog headbutted you in the testicles and the referee did nothing. You are determined to never be hurt again. SECRET: You have killed a man. His face haunts your dreams. DOOM: The actions of the dog result in your death. A screenshot from a PDF of the game.
