Boasberg has game: "To permit officials to freely annul the judgments of the courts of the United States wd not just “destroy the rights acquired under those judgments”; it would make “a solemn mockery” of “the constitution itself.” (Marshall, C.J.). “So fatal a result must be deprecated by all.”

Whoa!
If the judge is looking for an attorney to prosecute the Trump administration for contempt of court... 🙋‍♂️
What’s next?

(1) The gov can “purge” the contempt by asserting custody of people removed to El Salvador and by allowing them to pursue habeas claims

(2) If not, Boasberg will initiate proceedings to ID contemnor

(3) Refer to DOJ

(4) If DOJ refuses, "appoint another attorney to prosecute"

Another disgrace.
Another law firm capitulates amid Trump’s pressure campaign.

Milbank LLP has agreed to a deal with Trump, per a post on Trump’s Truth Social account.

A Skadden attorney resigned today, citing the firm’s decision to strike a deal with Trump amid pressure campaign on law firms.

“[I]f my employer cannot stand up for the rule of law, then I cannot ethically continue to work for them,” the former Skadden lawyer, Brenna Trout Frey, wrote on LinkedIn.

If a law firm won't risk everything to defend itself, what makes you think it will risk anything to defend you?

My advice: Find a law firm that will not back down and will never bend a knee.

A "former" major Democratic law firm.

Lawyers at Paul Weiss now have a choice. Stay and understand you are now aligned with Trump or leave with your dignity.

And if you’re an associate, announce tomorrow your plans to leave. There are so many better places to work, in the City and elsewhere. You’ll be glad that you did.

This Paul Weiss capitulation is the most disgraceful action by a major law firm in my lifetime, so appalling that I couldn’t believe it at first.

Any lawyers at that firm—partners or associates—who don’t promptly resign will defile their moral and professional reputations beyond repair.

Totally agree. It's a shit firm and so is anyone who decides to stay and practice there. Why would anyone hire a lawyer who is so easily intimidated and bends over like this for a bully? Paul Weiss knows nothing about justice, is weak, and I hope gets its ass handed to it.

He has no idea how to strike the right tone for the moment - that's bad enough. Worse is the fact that he seems oblivious to the fact that democracy is very clearly AT RISK. It is honestly mindblowing that he would use the word "if" as a qualifier. By the time he catches up, democracy will be gone.
“If democracy is at risk?”
If?
IF?

What the hell fantasyland does he live in?
This is why Chuck Schumer must step down.

We’re all fighting to save democracy and he’s still waiting for the fight to start.

I am surprised that the former presidents Clinton, Bush, Obama, Biden are not making their very important voices heard in these troubled times. Are they afraid? And if they are afraid...America has crossed the line into authoritarianism.

This is true. I stopped my monthly donation to Act Blue and won't donate a dime to the Dems until I'm convinced they get it and start fighting back effectively. I will donate to the lawyers who are doing all the actual fighting instead.
Dems, unless you dump Schumer don’t expect a dime from donors. Enough is enough,

People need to be crystal clear about something: The requirement that the government ANSWER to a court on the legal basis for detaining someone is literally the core liberty right (habeas corpus). If the government says they don’t have to do that bc “national security,” YOU can be disappeared.

A federal court’s jurisdiction does *not* stop at the water’s edge. The question is whether the *defendants* are subject to the court order, not *where* the conduct being challenged takes place.

Were it otherwise, the government could act lawlessly overseas and courts would be powerless to stop it.
