Old friend just laid off by USDA, 1 mos short of his probationary period as senior researcher. Brilliant person who left a tenured faculty position several yrs ago to join USDA. Bright early-career researchers also being laid off. USDA is terminating a generation of highly-qualified scientists.

I learned so much from TT about so many things - laundry, gardening, car repair, finance. I found books again. I was able to correct my assumptions - for example about adoptees. Saw world events from the people who lived them. Politics was only one small part of my TT experience.

Ironically I got the vast majority of my book recommendations & excellent book reviews on TikTok. I read 250+ books last year despite using TikTok as pretty much my only social media.

Your two concepts aren’t mutually exclusive.
