Anyone who actually thinks there are any public services left to cut has surely not used public services for a very long time. The policy should be: Get more taxes, make things better, hurry up. It's really not complicated.

The Government is considering slashing welfare costs ahead of the Spring Budget, a move that would hit ordinary people the hardest.

If cuts need to be made, why not start at the top? Just a 2% tax on assets over £10m could raise up to £24bn. Let that sink in.

It's not true that all benefit claimants are unemployed: 37% receiving Universal Credit work.

But in any case, our party exists to serve the whole working class, including those out of work.

Cutting welfare would have disastrous consequences. We can tax extreme wealth instead.

How is this difficult?

I worked with mental health charity Mind to push for an amendment to the Employment Rights Bill, proposing that Statutory Sick Pay be paid by the hour, not per day, to give workers greater flexibility.

Here’s why it matters:

Regardless of whether you support increasing defence spending, this - and indeed any policy - should never be paid for by the poorest, either in the UK or overseas.

This is a political choice, not a necessity, and it is the wrong one.

This has been really bugging me. I do still think that Labour is economically progressive (although definitely not in terms of foreign or social policy) by reading and skimming their bills - but why aren't they advertising this?
Very good @samfr.bsky.social piece on the third coming of ‘blue Labour’ which gets at something really bugging me: why the leftist economics of never get any play, even when literally the policy of the government.

And further, this narrative of "hard workers"
People’s worth isn’t determined by their ability to work. We all deserve a decent living standard regardless.

Just under 1/4 of the UK population is disabled, and anyone could become so.

Please, ditch “strivers vs skivers” narratives and instead repair our social security net.

I can't tell you what it's a metaphor for, the author is dead. (He slipped on the pavement, which had not been gritted.)

From today, women effectively work for free until the rest of the year due to the gender pay gap.

It’s two days earlier than last year because the gap has grown for the first time since 2013.

We must end the undervaluation of women’s work for good.

The ICC’s arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant for war crimes are long overdue.

Under international law, the UK has a duty to prevent and punish genocide.

We must do nothing less than enforce these warrants, impose immediate sanctions, and end all arms sales to Israel now.
