No surprise the Abundance/"don't talk about climate" folks came to Yglesias' defense to reinforce their: 1) Embrace of U.S. fossil fuels; 2) Fixation on coal v. gas GHG redux to shunt aside fact that all fossil fuels are bad; & 3) Ignore non-GHG harms of U.S fossil fuels.

Just take the L, folks.

If you have the time you need to read this thread (and never listen to that shm*ck Yglesias.)
This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...

Did you know that 10.9 million acres of public land are under mining claims? Do you know that they pay next to nothing back to the taxpayer for holding public land and extracting publicly owned minerals? Did you know that over a quarter of mineral activities are happening near a national park?

Just hear me out: maybe the Democratic Party’s problem is that the party leadership is full of people incapable of realizing that Matt Yglesias has terrible political instincts.

I heard from a bunch of federal employees last night and this morning. They aren't happy.

Please ask me your questions! Did you know that there are thousands of mining claims right next to national parks across the west? Did you know there’s a company trying to mine for gold INSIDE a national park right now?!

You can learn more during my Reddit AMA on the topic!
If you've ever wondered about:

➡️ The biggest loopholes in current laws and why they matter
➡️ And more...

Then we hope to see you at our Reddit AMA on Thursday, September 25th @ 4:00PM ET: https://bit.ly/3KhbTS8

How psyched are the Abundance Bros, as they pack their bags for Abundance Con in DC later this week, that their demand for "permitting reform" is getting major backing from the Koch Bros-affiliated Americans for Prosperity?

The next Democratic president should declare that the National Emergencies Act and Article II of the Constitution allow him to:

•admit D.C. and Puerto Rico as states
•abolish ICE
•grant citizenship to any immigrant
•disband the 5th Circuit
•expand the Supreme Court

Seriously: Why the hell not?

This is great for many reasons, but for me it’s another blow to the mining industry’s talking point that they need mining claims since “we just don’t know where the minerals are!” Science-based mapping improvements mean we can do much better land-use planning on public lands!!

Oil & gas causes tens of thousands of premature deaths & sickens hundreds of thousands each year.

For Matt Yglesias and others of his ilk, this is just a sensible price to pay for his “Big Ass Truck Abundance.”

Because “economics” & “moderation.”

So sensible! So moderate!
Air pollution from oil and gas causes 90,000 premature US deaths each year, says new study

Just fund the damn park service !!!😒
National Guard troops were deployed in D.C. to support federal law enforcement and local police.

But in recent days, those orders have expanded to encompass “beautification” tasks such as trash removal and groundskeeping. Service members may work on removing graffiti, too.

At least one-fifth of U.S. national parks have been significantly strained and understaffed because of steep cuts mandated by the Trump administration, according to internal government data obtained by The New York Times.

Amid deep cuts, more than 90 parks have reported problems like lost revenue and cuts to emergency services. One expert called this “a dangerous path.”

It is clear now that the best thing the US wind industry could have done to secure its ongoing health & growth-- by FAR, not even close --is to prevent Donald Trump from winning the election.

Instead it listened to consultants, rhetorically humped the leg of "bipartisanship," & is getting fucked.
