‘Cadillac Desert’ Reconsidered - The American Prospect
Marc Reisner’s 1986 book demonstrates how a hypertrophic judiciary combines with America’s deadlocked legislature to make vast swaths of Western water policy dependent on 19th-century legal norms.

As David Hume says, the linkage of wealth to moral and social superiority is a perversion of reason with no basis in fact. Lutnick himself is proof that you can be an idiot, a moral midget, and very wealthy. Indeed, this is a Wall Street commonplace.
Lutnick: "We should be bringing in the best and brightest, and that's what Donald Trump is changing about our immigration system. Let's expedite the best and brightest who are gonna give a million dollars to the US to prove they're at the top of the list."

Trump wants your kids to ration pencils & dolls while he gets massive ballrooms, luxury jumbo jets, & taxpayer-funded golf trips.

What a greedy grinch.
Trump: "You can give up certain products. You could give up pencils. Because under the China policy, every child can get 37 pencils. They only need 1 or 2. They don't need that many. You always need steel. You don't need 37 dolls for your daughter. 2 or 3 is nice. So we're doing things right."

The concentration of wealth is at a historical extreme. In 100s of years of history bad things always happen at this point. The working class must urgently organise. Stop letting them divide people on migrants and other stuff. Its the same fascist playbook to distract from extreme wealth inequality.
Its everything FDR warned of. Private power was allowed to become more powerful than the democratic state itself. People distracted with meaningless bread and circuses tolerated it. Its now up to the people to fix it or be enslaved.
Further consolidation of fascist billionaire control over the sphere of influence. Wealth inequality went too far.

Americans have been dragged, tackled, beaten, tased and shot by immigration agents.

More Than 170 U.S. Citizens Have Been Held by Immigration Agents. They’ve Been Kicked, Dragged and Detained for Days.
The government does not track how often immigration agents grab citizens. So ProPublica did. Our tally — almost certainly incomplete — includes people who were held for days without a lawyer. And near...

That's true, reporters at the NYT, NPR, and Vox did the same thing. It really is outrageous -- the media made the call that Biden was tone-deaf because they decided he shouldn't tout the genuinely good things about the economy. They then equate this with outright lies from Trump. THEY gave us Trump.
I've heard this from more than just the Economist magazine. @markwarner.bsky.social referred to Trump "pulling a Biden" in the same context. The truth is the exact opposite. Biden/Harris were shouted down from simply stating the facts because, you know, vibecession. Trump just tells lies.

Mamdani meeting with Trump is simply good governance on behalf of the people of NYC.

When you believe in your ideas, you tell everyone and you go everywhere.

There’s a difference between campaigning and governing and “Trump bad” isn’t a viable governance plan.

Different issue. This is where you have a PE company that effectively controls another company and puts it into bankruptcy. The issue is control.
Wait but don’t we want to protect shareholders from personal liability in case a company goes bust so that they can take risks in starting companies?

The correct answer to MAGA outrage over the Dem video is this: Are you effing kidding me? Of course it's reasonable to warn that Trump might be giving illegal orders.

The evidence is strong that he actually is giving illegal orders! I went through that evidence here:

From the boat bombings to deportations to prosecutions, the evidence mounts. And the speaker of the House could get to the bottom of it if he wanted to. Yeah, right.
