We’ve seen this play out repeatedly across Europe. Each time, mainstream parties hoped to undercut the far right by echoing its language. Each time, the effect was to legitimise and empower the very forces they wanted to contain.

I’m not talking about censoring speech or deciding what people can say. My focus is on building the civic capacity for people to verify evidence, deliberate openly, and hold power accountable. That way, everyone has the tools to challenge disinformation, no gatekeepers needed.
