Hello, please pay attention:

A Nevada dairy worker has contracted the deadly D1.1 strain of bird flu, seen in a British Columbia teen who recovered and a Louisiana victim who died.

This mutated strain spreads rapidly among mammals, including cattle, and is moving faster than others.

Climb into bed after a binge watch.
Getting the sheets into position, hanging, ready to sleep.
“WHAT TIME IS IT????”
I look to my right. My partner is awake, bug eyed, staring at me in fear.
“WHAT TIME IS IT???”
I am so dumbfounded, “Uh, 1am?!”
He looked relieved, then just goes …

I think of all the negative things to be said about social media - of all the terrible people who own them - I thank it for many things. For some of my closest friends. For teaching me of new things. For the ability to be independent financially. For all the terrible, there are droplets of good.

Anyway, Hundreds Of Beavers is the TRUE micro-budget indie film to mainstream success story that we should be supporting.

ANYWAY, sorry, here's a bird. Pause and regard the bird. The bird is happy, for the bird has found a peanut. May we all find the small joy of finding a tasty snack today.

The cruelty is the point.
They want you to panic.
They want you to give up.
They want you dead.
Don’t let them win.
You have to live.
Better days can only come if you’re still here.

It’s so easy to feel alone and defeated right now. I called my mom crying, telling her I don’t know what I’m supposed to do, fully in a meltdown, and she says right now you’re not supposed to do anything. Just breathe. She said to me it’s so easy to catastrophize and takes so much energy not to.

it's never too late to assess your skills, strengths, areas of expertise, and where these intersect political issues with the most impact. and to that end, how can you pull closer to your communities and pool your skills and strengths to not just make a broader impact but meet each others' needs?
I'm just going to (re)post this whenever I need to remind myself. Maybe it'll help you too?

1. Focus on things in your control & take ONE action there.

2. Limit your inputs. You can't help if you're paralyzed.

Mutual aid is not just a disaster response, it’s a way of caring for one another, building stronger communities, and preparing for whatever life may throw at us next. It’s a labor of love—and a way of life.

I put together a reading list (and words of advice) for LitHub: lithub.com/we-only-have...
We Only Have Ourselves: The How-Tos and DOs and DON’Ts of Mutual Aid
For all of humanity’s many, many flaws, one of our most redeeming characteristics as a species is an almost-universal desire to connect with one another. When terrible things happen and communities…

Breathe. Embrace your free time. Pour into your community. Respect what you can't control. Reject nihilism. Remember pace and perspective. Burnout is the enemy and helps no one, least of all yourself, and should be stridently avoided. That's the only way we're gonna get through this. And we will.

SHARE WIDELY.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.

With mass deportations starting today across the country, it is vitally important - for both citizens and non-citizens - to know your rights.

You have the right to remain silent. Assert it. You have the right to a lawyer. Ask for one.
