The GOP is very unpopular with voters, which is why the off-year elections swung further than usual (and further than the polls indicated). To interpret that as a mandate for any given policy or procedural strategy is the senate is pure spin.

Threadlet on AI.
My mentor as a programmer (former career) was from the original generation of computer geeks (bought a PC out of the trunk of Michael Dell's car, iirc). He passed away just before COVID broke, but we had just started talking about writing a book together about trust and tech.

I'm all for solar power, but the industry is the wild west and this means a lot of sloppy work. Neighbor's install crew just littered my side gravel walk with aluminum shavings that could definitely kill my dog if she swallowed one.

He'll just have to settle for being a regular everyday hero
Sure the sandwich guy didn't actually hurt that cop, but that was because he was propelling the sandwich by hand, what if he'd had a sub machine gun

Curious to know whether a mayoral race has ever gotten nearly this much attention from the national press and parties

Best case (from Cuomo's POV) is Trump/Musk/Miller endorsing Cuomo will unify the Staten Island vote. Best of luck, Mario's big boy.

People are understandably mystified by Speaker Johnson's apparent abdication of power. But I think they're assuming he cares about the power of the House rather than his own. He's wielding his negative agenda setting authority (the capacity to prevent decision) to achieve his desired outcome.

The White House has a page dedicated to the ballroom project and the Major Events Timeline is all the evidence you need to conclude that this country is in the hands of the most gutter-bound trolls you could ever imagine. These people are truly deplorable.

Before the modern nation-state, vassals would muster armies to fight for the monarch.
Trump: "By the way, a friend of mine called us the other day and he said 'I'd like to contribute any shortfall you have because of the Democrat shutdown. I'd like to contribute any shortfall you have with the military.' Today, he sent us a check for $130 million. It's gonna go the military."

Srsly, I think his marriage is on the rocks. He's tearing down her offices either because he knows she's leaving and he's throwing a fit, or because he's trying to get her to stay by giving her something new and shiny.

Is destroying a whole part of the White House complex without authorization an official or unofficial act with respect to presidential immunity?

He tore open the WH because demo doesn't need approval. Building does (assuming it's enforceable with the current SC and Congress). So the open sore will remain and he'll try to blame Schumer. Do I have that right?

No excuse for putting No Kings protests below the fold (and not even the actual story at that). Lead story is important, but not urgent (Assad's enforcers escaping punishment). Right-most column is jumped-up opinion piece on Dem's "well-worn" strategy of [gasp] being the opposition.
Those with sharp eyes might detect a subtle difference in NYT play last month of an event in one city, w 100,000+ attendees, versus play this morning of some 2500+ events w many millions of attendees, in all 50 states.
See if you can spot it! /s
Then you can find today's story on p A23
