I have two fancy STEM degrees. I think about really complicated stuff for a living. And this is basically gibberish to me. When people complian about the NHS, I will send them this thread.

This is why I, as a clinician, strongly support a single-payer system.

Think of it like the fire department. The modern fire department started as an insurance you could purchase; it ended as a public good, funded by all.

Healthcare is no different.

A certain president has women employees that he doesn't (ostensibly) harass, and yet he is also a serial predator and general misogynist. There's no mystery about how JW could mentor some women but be a huge creep to others. Making a few exceptions is normal behavior for creeps.

The "canonical" rock and roll genre evolved from jazz, swing, rag, gospel, folk, rhythm and blues. Like it or lump it, hip hop is another stage in the evolution of (African-)American rock and roll music.

Thanks for this thread, Jeremy. I enjoy reading your Bluetorials. I think this post in particular highlights the human tendency to give the benefit of the doubt to a (powerful) person who's been decent to one's self, rather than assume that red flags are the tip of a larger iceberg of unpleasant.
