It's a bookcase. Books are askew and not organised by any obvious system. It is chaotic good. There are also plants and tchotchkes. And some dolls. And ceremonial knives.

Reform councillors radicalised by reality of local council budget shortfalls for essential services.
Reform’s experience in Kent highlights some of the obstacles it may face in national government if it won the next general election and attempted to follow through on its pledge to slash taxes and public spending. “Everyone thought we’d come in and there were going to be these huge costs we could cut away but there just aren’t,” said a third senior Reform cabinet member in Kent. They said the priority was improving services.

This is a very interesting take on what the Labour strategy ought to be to win voters (and form progressive coalitions).
tl;dr - not alienate their base chasing ungettable Reform voters.

So the moral of this tale is that moving in a radically Reform like direction is not especially advisable since those people, whatever their occupation, have much more socially conservative views than anyone else in Britain and certainly than Labour voters. There is also an equivalent challenge to the left of Green voters and I think that kind of left populism is a real quandary for Labour because it is also a long way from the views of their base. By contrast, non-voters and Lib Dems really do look a lot like Labour voters and it’s their PMC members who are most capturable. So a plan to lean against PMCs not only hurts Labour’s base it also hurts the people who aren’t voting for Labour who should be easiest to attract. Seems kinds dumb if you ask me.

Klein's argument for running proliferation Dems as a "compromise" for the "greater good" is wrong on the morals and wrong on the merits.
Klein kicked this off, for example, by telling Douthat that Democrats should run ‘pro-life’ candidates to “make it more likely to win Senate seats in Kansas and Ohio and Missouri.” But as I wrote last week, all three of those states have seen massive pro-choice victories: Kansas voters crushed an anti-abortion ballot measure with 60% of the vote in 2022; Ohio passed an abortion rights amendment in 2023; and Missouri voters approved a pro-choice measure in 2024.

So this is the compromise position between sitting on my keyboard and being locked out of the office.
The most spoiled little cat-prince has is sitting in a fuzzy cat nest which takes up half my desk, and the keyboard is at an angle. One paw is stretched out proprietarily in front of the monitor.

Feeling pleased and tired after an intrepid (for me!) solo cycling trip on country roads - and, oops, a footpath through fields of sheep- with a very heavy backpack. Beautiful weather and countryside (Ox). Here it is, and my lab safety PPE to keep bugs and dust out of my eyes. Details in alt text.
