two major mayoral elections in 4 days (yes it never ends):

Miami, which Democrats are trying to flip.
Albuquerque, which the GOP is trying to flip.
The Democratic mayor of Albuquerque, Tim Keller, faces a runoff next week against a former Republican sheriff, Darren White. White has pledged to repeal an executive order from Keller that limits local collaboration with ICE.

try living in a country that DOESN'T have a functioning/existing postal system. Not everything can be sent online; do you want to pay big $$ to private couriers? Also, USPS provides vital services to rural areas! (You know, the rural areas that MAGA republicans consider the "heart of the USA")
I am happy to pay $30 a year for USPS Prime, which delivers mail daily to my home
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

👇🎯 The Post Office is a friggin’ miracle, one of the actual original functions of the Republic, & the government is not a business.

Worth noting that Trump has pardoned zero of the heartwarming redemption stories. Zero. Every pardon is a guy who got caught doing obvious evil shit and is unrepentant. Many of whom did their shit either in Trump’s benefit of paid him. And the motive is ego or grift or both. Every time.

A judge has ordered the unsealing of grand jury transcripts from the 2005 & 2007 investigation into Jeffrey Epstein.

The Epstein Files Transparency Act compels the DOJ, FBI and federal prosecutors by 19 December to disclose the tranche of materials amassed during investigations into Epstein.
Jeffrey Epstein: US judge orders unsealing of grand jury records from abandoned case
A similar request was rejected earlier this year, but a law passed by Congress last month overrides it.

My aunt, the doctor,
told me a new joke.
She asked:

Why are we hearing
about hospital admissions
rising in the UK and Canada
but not in the US?

I said I did not know.
And so she answered:

Because in the US
no one can afford
to go to a hospital.

And then neither of us laughed.

#Trump pardoned Tim Leiweke — who his own DOJ indicted in July for rigging a public university’s arena bid—

It’s all a grift — Saudis to crypto to pardon seekers — everything gets turned into a revenue stream. With 1,500+ pardons already, clemency is a monetized market

Thanks to the IRS MATH Act, the IRS must now explain mistakes in plain English, show any adjustments, and put your 60-day appeal deadline front and center. It will be a major upgrade from previously confusing notices.

If there’s one thing you’d think Congress could do without controversy, it’s renaming post offices.

But this week, a House committee quietly pulled Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton’s bill to rename one in Brookland for Chuck Brown, D.C.’s godfather of go-go.

@maustermuhle.bsky.social has the story:
Wilson Building Bulletin: The Chuck Brown post office is no-go
Also: D.C. gets no deference from Congress, and there won't be a referendum on the tipped wage (though the fight isn't over)
