Amber Glenn won Olympic gold on Sunday. That same day, she left social media because of death threats. Her offense: she'd told reporters the queer community is going through "a hard time." The headline called it "backlash." www.readtpa.com/p/the-thresh...
The Threshold
The right used to attack athletes who protested. Now they attack athletes who express feelings at all.

I was unprepared for last week’s Starfleet Academy and I am gonna need a minute, especially after reading the behind the scenes narrative of how it, and the lines at the end, came to be.

This is ABSOLUTELY what Trek was meant to be.

This is so powerful - the act of distancing yourself from the enablers. Networks of abusers exist in all walks of life - so many of them are passively maintained by people who choose to look the other way. If there is any legacy of the Epstein files, I hope it will involve bold stances like this.
Chappell Roan is leaving her talent agency led by Casey Wasserman after he appeared in the Epstein files.

it’s honestly gross the way these ai (llm) companies obsfucate their intentions by hiring “ai ethicists” proselytizing about the conscience of a predictive media generator (???) while ignoring & firing the ethicists who warned about its actual harms for years

"All of these individual systems together are part of a bigger picture of mass surveillance that's at an unprecedented level because of the total control from top to bottom of the infrastructure."
Iran’s Digital Surveillance Machine Is Almost Complete
After more than 15 years of draconian measures, culminating in an ongoing internet shutdown, the Iranian regime seems to be staggering toward its digital surveillance endgame.

The defining feature of AI today is infrastructure: the rapacious buildout of data centres; the transnational configuration of labour exploitation; the grafting of AI onto processes of capitalist accumulation.

Queer bookstores died in 2010. We had a funeral and everything!

Except... a ton of people decided to roll up their sleeves and start *new* queer bookshops, all over the place. In cities. In tiny towns.

My latest newsletter is about the rebirth of the LGBTQ bookshop:

Given the influx of users from TikTok to Skylight, I thought a list of good video feeds was in order.

It’s past midnight and I did this from mobile — will update with more tomorrow after I make slides for my committee mtg 💀🥲

not only, it’s the world that misses out on opportunities—instead of letting women actually do shit they are pushed out so men can do…..this
the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex

Please buy books that are coming out this year.

Doesn’t have to be mine. But there is a stellar release calendar this year especially of Black writers and it would be a shame if one of the fascist victories was people not buying those books (from the indies that are in the fight with us). #BookSky
