Bsky handle has officially changed.

I loved the pun, but I don't love hearing twitch streamers call me by the first half of it. Too close to my deadname.

I'll keep the profile pic the same for now to minimize confusion.

Have some cute pictures as penance

Much love! 💜

I do think that the ecological damage argument against genAI is not sufficient on it's own, especially when we just let pass all sorts of other egregious problems, like the carbon footprint of vacation cruise liners.

You also have to pair it with "it doesn't work and only loses money."

I can't imagine why a company that has gone all in on investing in AI would say 1/3 of their work is done by the hallucinating wrongness machine. It certainly couldn't be a total lie.

Attention gays!

Do you like disco?
Do you like queer love stories?
Do you wanna help an art student make a sequel to a queer disco love story?

@niqducoteart on Instagram is trying to raise money to cover his CalArts tuition so he can cut back on his working hours and focus on his art 💖

And then all the poor souls will be swept up for tax evasion after this train wreck goes terribly wrong? I mean???
TurboTax is about to be integrated into ChatGPT, where customers will be guided through tasks tied to their tax filings or financial profile by the AI chatbot.

TurboTax owner Intuit is also paying OpenAI more than $100 million a year to power AI agents.

What the actual fuck, Apple
Not satisfied with just destroying their own brand goodwill, OS companies are now using AI to try to destroy the good names of the apps users install. (Scrivener taking out adds to explain how it has no AI but Apple adds some anyway.)

The wannabe megachurch I attended ran the best food bank in the county...

Until the pastor's wife decided they were giving out too much food and eventually shut it down entirely to open a for-profit thrift store, instead
I grew up in white evangelical fundamentalist churches. I wish I could say I was surprised.
A woman on TikTok did a very simple experiment:

With SNAP benefits paused, would churches give a poor mother with an infant who was starving a can of baby formula?

Spoiler alert: the Protestants failed.

I reference this all the time and I'm glad that its full power went away when Jobs passed because otherwise tech would be unstoppable. (Not that they haven't tried to keep it up.)

But with politics, it's a non-starter. Sycophants around him is one thing, but the American people aren't buying it.
When Steve Jobs came back to Apple and started doing the product announcements there was a thing called the Reality Distortion Field where Jobs could sell changes like No Floppy Disk with ease
Trump seems to think he has a similar power, that prices are down and things are great, but it doesn’t work

So I usually only feel comfortable posting pictures where my look is on point, but I have to roast myself a bit.

Got a new hair styling tool, had no idea how to use it, and managed to knit my hair into the oval brush attachment.

It took about 10 minutes to work it free, but I fixed it 😅

While waiting for my flight to Seattle last month, I met some delightful older liberals, and we talked about how things got to where they stand right now.

They told me I should write a book about growing up a deeply closeted trans girl in Christian Nationalism.

I've got about 50 pages so far.

There’s a young southern woman on tt doing an experiment: calling churches & asking if they can help her get baby formula, saying she can’t afford it. Of the 30+ she’s called, nearly every church has said no. The ones who said yes were:

Black Baptist Churches
A Mosque
A small Appalachian church

I feel like Sci Show has gone click-bait.

First a "We don't understand why knitting works" video that people who knit immediately and resoundingly criticized, now a "We've lost control of AI, it's too powerful" video that just seems like pointless fear mongering

A wonderful thing about @maigheach.bsky.social's writing is that their books are "one more chapter" reads.

Just stood in the kitchen grabbing one more chapter while waiting for my kiddo to brush xyr teeth, and if xe hadn't just finished, I would have read another.

Absolute delight 💖
So happy my copy of All the Stars in the Daylight Sky came, even if it's going to be a few hours before trick or treating lets me start reading.

I don't know how many people actually recognized my Miss Frizzle without being told, but it was a fun look and a great way to compliment my wife's fabulous demon librarian.

She was wearing a pin that says "Read Banned Books," but her hand is covering it here

I visited two of my favorite professors for the first time in 20 years today.

It's not often that I get to introduce myself to people who were once authority figures in my life, so to be welcomed with so much joy was an incredibly healing experience 🥹🫶🏼
