I can’t help thinking that when, in future, people ask what UK political leaders said as it became undeniable that US saw European liberal democracy as its no1 strategic foe, Starmer and others will regret that the answer is “not much, shuffled awkwardly, looked at their feet”.

Russia does not want to end the war, and the Trump administration has shown no ability to induce Russia to end the war. And so, predictably, the Trump administration blames the victim, blames Ukraine.

‘Everyone can find their America here!’ I just heard Polish PM Donald Tusk @donaldtusk say, encouraging Polish migrants who might have some -er - legal or other difficulties in Donald Trump’s America to return to Poland.
A charming European response from Donald T. to Donald T.

A paper that understands its responsibility, in a country that knows it when it sees it.

Impressive from Die Zeit. Refuses to show the salute, but calls it out for what it so obviously was.

Headline: “A Hitler Salute is a Hitler Salute is a Hitler Salute”

3 theories of Musk salute

My view is 3

1) excited, misunderstood.
A stretch!

2) impulsive disinhibition. Substance overuse

3) Conscious transgressive trolling. A sort of "banter fascism".

Can invent [disingenuous] deniability but wants "Main Character" attention. Seeing what can get away with

Extraordinary quote in the FT profile of Alice Weidel - the AFD candidate for German Chancellor.

Asked to explain how her being married to a woman fitted with the party's "anti-woke" philosophy an official said:

"She is just gay by biology but not by political conviction."

"We need to start understanding that Elon Musk’s X is a weapon, currently owned by a non-state entity. But from January 20 that changes. At that point it must be understood as information warfare from a hostile nation state."

@carolecadwalla.bsky.social as usually one step ahead of most of us.
Total information collapse
It's started. And it's only going to accelerate from here.

Not to be dramatic, but there really are days when I feel scared of the future.
Like, to pick an example at random, today.
What we are witnessing is an assault on the very concept of truth.

With Trump & Musk’s aggressions towards Canada, the EU, the UK, Greenland…

The US is now alone in the world, with no close ally except Israel…

…which serves to isolate the US even further from the rest of the world.

Emmanuel Macron denounces Elon Musk's "unacceptable interference" in European democracies by supporting "a new reactionary international".

Macron is the 4th European leader in the last 24 hours to speak against Musk, following Olaf Scholz, Keir Starmer & Jonas Gahr Støre.

Must read by @tbenner.bsky.social:

“one thing is certain: finger-pointing at Musk or Springer is hardly a winning strategy with voters looking for real solutions to the malaise of the German model and the country’s economic, social and security challenges. Rather, it’s a feel-good distraction.”
