Democratic Representative @algreen.house.gov of Texas was just forcibly removed from Congress by House Speaker Johnson, encouraged by VP Vance, after Green stood in protest against Donald Trump’s lies for well over a minute. Rep. Green is a national treasure and hero 🇺🇸👏🏽
“In a couple of weeks, the budget talks will reach the point of an increasingly likely government shutdown… In agreeing to reopen the gov, @democrats.org are in a good position to demand that Trump reopen the whole gov, starting with the parts that Musk has illegally shut down.”

Demand it.
Some presidents haven't responded to an economic downturn. Some failed to recover strongly. But it's genuinely impressive to engineer a depression from the Oval Office, so congratulations to Donald Trump, I guess. From Bob Kuttner:

The Trump Depression
Donald Trump is on track to be the first president to deliberately engineer a severe depression.

Trump, his administration, and party will ask you to put your life on the line for this country, and when you need them, they will deny you. They know how to take; they don’t know how to give (unless you’re a billionaire).

I hope every veteran, active service member, and American sees this today.

Trump’s attempt at “making English the official language” does do something, which McShane points out in her article: it emboldens xenophobia and racism. It also discourages people from learning at least one other language, which is la folie/loquera to me given how beneficial this is to our brains.

The question is, do the @democrats.org understand that? Because while it makes sense they were shocked by Trump’s blitzkrieg, as many of us were, we’re one month in and there’s still some hesitance to recognize we’re fighting both for the soul of the country AND the Democrats’ ability to even exist.
If you understand that the world Trump and Musk want to create is one in which the Democratic Party doesn't exist—indeed American democracy doesn't exist—but instead an American Empire (with vassal states) allied with a Russian Empire, Indian Empire, Chinese Empire, and Saudi Caliphate, you get it.

“Never before in history has a President of the United States capitulated before en enemy,” says Malhuret, referring to Trump capitulating to Putin under the guise of “peace.” He is correct.
French Senator Claude Malhuret:

"Washington has become Nero’s court, with an incendiary emperor, submissive courtiers and a jester high on ketamine... We were at war with a dictator, we are now at war with a dictator backed by a traitor."

I heard another Dem echo Warner, claiming they didn’t join Rep. @algreen.house.gov as he stood protesting Trump’s lies out of “respect [for] the office” of POTUS. This is illogical. Going along with someone like Trump who is debasing the office of the president IS disrespecting the office. Stand up.
Mark Warner on Fox: "I may disagree with the president, but I respect the office of the president. I'm probably not gonna be jumping up applauding a lot, but I owe him his due as president. The president has made great, great progress on border crossings. That's something we ought to celebrate."

It’s long been interesting and unnerving to see people project their hopes + a false sense of depth onto Trump when it’s clear the man is nothing but an extremely stupid, extremely insecure, self-centered chode who just happened be born into the type of privilege that protects one from consequences.
tired of people treating trump like he is anything other than an ego-driven simpleton (i wrote this, this is a piece about why he is nothing more than an ego driven simpleton.)

It is hard to describe the president’s first month and a half in office as something other than a retribution campaign against the American people.

Speaking of Musk, Trump, and other extreme-right-wingers sharing the same insecurity (see: bsky.app/profile/carl...). Behind the rhetoric, they’re all still the guys who can’t get any unless they pay for it (and even then it’s a question).
Lutnick: "He's gonna do it hard and he's gonna do it strong and that's why we love him as our president."

I’m going to celebrate this victory for us at SCOTUS and at the same time note how disgusting/bizarre it is that four Supreme Court justices (Alito, Thomas, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh) believe contracts aren’t legally binding, or at least not when they personally dislike whom/what those contracts benefit.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court has *upheld* a lower court's order forcing USAID/State to immediately pay ~$2 billion owed to contractors for work they've alreayd performed.

Musk falsely equating empathy with weakness reminds me of this recent post in which Musk envisions himself a “post apocalyptic warlord.” Both show a distinct preoccupation with being seeing as stereotypically “masculine.” Musk should invest in a therapist instead of harming us with his insecurities.

The rest of us only loved the minute where Representative @algreen.house.gov stood-up to Trump.
Vladimir Putin is loving every minute of this.

A new @npr.org, @pbsnews.org, Marist poll published yesterday shows both Musk and DOGE are unpopular, with only a 39% favorability rating. Americans are understandably disturbed by an unelected Nazi billionaire with a gang of tween hackers accessing our information and destroying our government.
Slotkin: While we are on the subject of Elon Musk, is there anyone in America who's comfortable with him and his gang using his own computer servers to poke to your tax returns, your health information, your bank accounts?

She should have punched him.

Extra points if in the process she would have somehow managed to knock the toupee off Trump's empty head.
A Democratic Congresswomen was holding a “this is not normal” sign behind Trump. A Republican ripped it out of her hands and threw it over Trump’s head.

All these questions about whether Democrats should attend #SOTU, and as usual, as we ponder, American Nazis (formerly Republicans) just march right in and take things 🪑
Already hearing that Republican members have been showing up to the House floor trying to take up the Dem side seats for the joint address 💀

A week ago I saw Warner’s name on a list of Democrats who voted to confirm Trump’s pick for Secretary of the Army, an old chum of Nazi Cabbage Patch Kid JD Vance: bsky.app/profile/carl.... I knew then Warner needs to go, and his jellyfish response here confirms it. Virginians, vote him out please.

(WSJ) - The world economy could face a crash similar to the Great Depression of the 1930s unless the U.S. rows back on its plans to impose steep tariffs on imports, a senior official at the International Chamber of Commerce warned.

I called on my Senators, @schiff.senate.gov @padilla.senate.gov, & all @democrats.org/Independents/people who love democracy to boycott #SOTU yesterday. However, I share this view that those who wish to attend must use their presence to signal loud, clear dissent. Boo for us all who can’t be there!
Democrats should boycott Trump's address tonight.

If they feel they need to attend, they must not signal to the nation that we're living in normal times.

Make good and loud trouble. Disrupt the speech. When he lies, boo loudly!

Anything less will legitimize Trump’s coup.

It’s important to remember that at least 30% of civil servants are veterans, and ~2/3 of them are disabled. When Habba discards veterans w/gov jobs, she’s discarding disabled Americans, in-line with the eugenics garbage circulating in extreme-right media and Trump’s own views of disabled people.

Required viewing for every American ahead of #SOTU. Trudeau is correct. Trump, his admin & enablers are choosing to hurt Americans while also choosing to senselessly hurt & threaten our Canadian allies. This is insanity. Trump, his admin & enablers must be removed from every level of our government.
Trudeau: I want to speak first directly to the American people… your government has chosen to do this to you. Your government has chosen to put American jobs at risk. They have chosen to raise costs for American consumers on everyday essential items…

We have “short-term [earth] movements” here in California, some as short as a few seconds, and still they manage to cause major destruction in that time. The brevity of a damaging event doesn’t lessen its impact, and the thing is, we can’t control nature, but Trump could avoid his moronic tariffs.
Lutnick rolls out a new euphemism for inflation: "There may well be short-term price movements."

At the heart of Putin’s rule are two forces: corruption & violence.

In Putin's Russia, there is no freedom of speech. Protests are violently suppressed. Dissidents are murdered. And the billionaire oligarchs become even richer.

And here it is, via @apnews.com: Friday’s orchestrated Oval Office attack by Trump & Vance on Ukrainian President Zelenskyy was to create an excuse, however flimsy and ridiculous, to pause aid to Ukraine, checking yet another item off the Kremlin’s wish list, which Trump & Vance clearly abide by.
