You hear a lot more about people stealing a stick of deodorant from a drug store than corporations stealing millions from their workers
Multiple Burger King and Popeyes franchises across Massachusetts has been hit with over $2 million in fines for violating child labor law.

Nearly 2,000 workers under age 18 were being paid late, paid less than minimum wage, or were not paid at all.

If you know a curious kid, send their question to CuriousKidsUS@theconversation.com, and we'll do our best to answer it. We take all topics but get a lot of STEM questions (not a bad thing! just saying), so if they want to know about politics, religion, arts or business, all the better

There’s a lot of hot rock in the way, and sooner or later your hole would collapse.

We're still kicking as a small magazine that found an audience on Twitter. But we're not there anymore, and it's much harder for pubs like Contingent to find and grow an audience, so if you like our stuff--tell someone about it!

A review of @drewmckevitt.bsky.social's Gun Country by @caribabitzke.bsky.social.

The Problem of Plenty
There was nothing inevitable about the kind of gun country the U.S. is today.

Do you know a single thing about Rutherford B. Hayes? I'd say the most important fact is that he was a secret bird lover. Apparently he counted 52 kinds of birds at his house and I can say from experience that the only person who'd bother doing this is a hyperfixated bird nerd.🪶🗃️

I find it interesting (but not surprising) that the NRA’s defense has centered on the “rogue actor” narrative. Much like it has done with gun violence for decades on decades.

It’s worth remembering that LaPierre was in charge for nearly a third of a century.

Longtime NRA chief Wayne LaPierre is leaving the gun group in trouble but still powerful
Under his watch, congressional action toward gun control ground to a near halt that lasted for many years.
