There’s a lot of talk about how to prepare for economic catastrophe.

A big part of that conversation should be developing skills to help others. Especially through care work.

The fascist plan is for the overwhelm of those needs to push women out of the workforce because men refuse to step in.

the thing I hate most about that rfk quote is that autistic lives have value and worth and beauty and dignity whether they are able to do the things other people do or not. no one is defined by ability or lack thereof and to frame divergence as lack is monster stuff, utterly godless

People need to be told honestly and clearly that there are massive upheavals in store, of which today’s fires and floods are just the first waves. That coping with them without continuing to make them worse will require massive transformations and sacrifices which will be hard.

N95 masks protect against wildfire smoke, airborne viruses, and more. They are an essential public health tool. Like condoms and many other public health tools, the government should make N95 masks free and easily accessible to the public throughout the year.

You do not want a cannula the size of a small garden hose inserted into your body.

starting an audit at the hospital and the PI was like “you do not have to count a protocol violation if you assess that the patient condition does not require the protocol” and I said “I’m not allowed to assess so I’ll find more violations than anyone else” and she said “yeah”

My meals consist of whatever is on the death cart
Official 2024 Christmas hospital meal thread. Rules:
1. If you get a free employee meal at work today, post a photo. The sadder, the better.
2. If you don’t get a free employee meal, post a photo of your healthcare system’s CEO and their annual salary including bonuses.

one time at shift change in the CVICU we were doing a seemingly-critical STAT CT but they were actually fine—only a mild injury from accidentally smacking their forearm into the donut of the scanner—and when I called the unit to update they said, “can’t you send ‘em back through to check the arm?”

I teach math (counting, addition, subtraction, fractions, measuring, precision, accuracy) to adults who wanted a career that didn’t require math (nursing assistant students) and it’s Really Hard
Illiteracy is bad but, man, innumeracy is a special kind of pain to deal with.

it’s my job to look for a phone number for a newborn’s primary caregiver for public health follow-up after birth. sometimes, they have no phone number because they came here a few weeks ago to give birth as a non-resident. do I put that in our government records? no!!
a useful thing to ask is how specifically does a rule or regulation or order go from issuance to implementation. for instance, trump has said that he will issue an executive order denying birth certificates and SSNs to the children of undocumented immigrants. okay. what happens next?

I find that, across the board, individuals get heaped with disproportionate amounts of care work the second it's known they'll take it. A bottomless well of need, to put it mildly.

So many people who are incarcerated right now deserve this kind of reasoned defense of their right to freedom, but they lack a powerful parent to intervene on their behalf.

Abolition now.

every orderset at my hospital contains generic doccu-senna—guys what about just senna!!
My guess is that it has made its way into premade order sets in hospitals and no one has bothered to do anything about it.
