This piece helped me think about the ways critical care anonymizes, yet exposes, yet uniquely marks a person and subsumes their selfhood into a History of Present Illness. I was also thinking about the Black patients in Chocolate City, more likely to experience poor health and less likely to choose any death except one with full lifesaving measures, and the care workers, fiber craftspeople, and menders of the world, primarily women and those of marginalized genders and often women of color, and the many times we swap one life role for another.

both pleased and upset because I was nominated for an award for being the minimum appropriate amount respectful to a patient with cognitive disabilities
