The ACA isn't just "health care for people who don't have a conventional employer." It also disallows something that was incredibly common 20 years ago, which I fear is getting lost to generational memory: insurance companies could deny you health care for essentially any previous health problem.
I'm dubious about Amazon's commitment to keeping pre-existing conditions a thing of the past.

"What did your family do over the Thanksgiving break?"
"Not much. Ate some good food.. Decorated for Christmas. Watched a 4+ hour documentary about interactive theme park robots."

The funny thing about this is the main reason the Boy Scouts opened up to girls in the first place wasn't because they were caving to pressure from the left. It's because they were having major recruitment issues. There weren't enough interested boys alone for them to stay afloat as an organization.
Perhaps this helps explain why, when my son’s den was writing letters to thank soldiers for their service (as they do every year), it was recommended that the messages begin “Dear Warrior.” www.npr.org/2025/11/25/n...
U.S. ready to cut support to Scouts, accusing them of attacking 'boy-friendly spaces'
Documents show the U.S. military is planning to sever all ties with the organization formerly known as the Boy Scouts.

One of my favorite things is getting to tell friends who are new to NYC that the subway "stand clear of the closing doors please" voice is a trans woman named Bernie Wagenblast and she's amazing.

NEW:

In 2024, Tierra Walker was sick and getting sicker. She was also pregnant.

She knew abortion was illegal in Texas, but thought there was an exception for women like her, whose health was at risk. Doctors told her there was no emergency.

Then she died.

“Ticking Time Bomb”: A Pregnant Mother Kept Getting Sicker. She Died After She Couldn’t Get an Abortion in Texas.
Walker is one of several women ProPublica found with underlying health conditions who died when they couldn’t access abortions.

“Things happen.”

Jamal Khashoggi was a journalist and Washington Post columnist who was literally murdered and dismembered by agents of the Saudi government inside a Saudi consulate.

Shameful. So shameful.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

I'm thinking today of all my fellow veterans but especially the more than 5,000 trans service members and their families who were kicked out of the military this year despite being highly qualified and serving honorably. This injustice will be a stain on our nation's history.

Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

They are not the same.

My heart aches for Lia Smith's family & friends at Middlebury College. The online hatred she faced for being transgender was cruel & senseless. I can't imagine the pain her loved ones felt with those comments. Everyone deserves dignity & kindness. May her memory be honored by those who loved her.

It’s not a chilling effect. It would only be chilling if you had something horrid to say, and you don’t, do you? Certainly nothing critical of the regime, and absolutely no paraphrasing, not of anyone, not at this time!

You know what's gonna happen, is "Coldplay" will become a verb, like "they got coldplayed," and the word will outlive the legacy of the band so it'll become this weird origin story you find in trivia lists, like the Earl of Sandwich or Thomas Crapper.

My A/C broke 2 weeks ago in the middle of a terrible heatwave, and I've had a terrible time dealing with the local HVAC company we've used for the past 15 years. Today I found out that they've recently been bought out by a private equity firm, which is why their service has gone to hell.

I do think there is an issue with social media in that I can log on and almost immediately see a reply from someone who is too noxious for the vast majority of society. maybe not great that we’re all getting drive-by psychic damage from people who 20 years ago would have had almost no platform
