“Virtue is like a muscle that grows with its exercise.

We become just by doing just acts, brave by doing brave acts.

When we are kind, kindness grows.

When we seek unity, unity grows.

When we are Canadian, Canada grows.”

— Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Seriously. If you haven’t watched Carney’s speech yet, you should.

He’s not trying to be the “grand orator” like Obama. He has a humility, authenticity and humour that you REALLY don’t expect from someone with his world-class credentials and reputation. And his focus on values is very effective.

We got our Canadian election voter card in the mail this week, and will be taking advantage of the 4 days of advance voting that will make it easy.

Remember, the polls look good for Carney, but DON’T be overconfident.

Polls don’t win elections.

Neither do pundits.

TURNOUT wins elections.

If there's one thing that domestic violence research has taught me, it's that abusers set up no-win scenarios. They punish you whether you cooperate with them or whether you push back.

The only way out is to strengthen ties with people outside of the relationship who can create new, better options.

I've said for a couple of years now that it's not about tsunamis, but high sea level with high and low (read: less-high) tide. At this point, I'd say it makes more sense to talk about there being a few brief relative lulls rather than about waves and peaks. We need less virus.
