No prize for guessing everyone's favorite, but did you know other good films also came out last year?

Each color shows the passage of time. As the bright flash of light left the star, it illuminated the dust surrounding it, but because space is so big, we actually see the light travelling and illuminating the dust as it goes along.

Submitted a proposal for the first-ever Oregon Astronomy Research Symposium (OARS). If we get the funding, it would be the first Oregon-wide astro research meeting IN HISTORY! Wish us luck! 🔭🧪

Tonight I was presented an award for my years of service to the Amateur Astronomers Association. I'd be lying if I said being VP to this incredible org wasn't a fair amount of hard work, but when you love what you do, you truly don't work a day in your life. I'm grateful to pass the baton forward 💖

Planet parade info! ⤵️🔭🧪

(If you're in the S. Hemisphere, read NW for SW and reverse the Moon emojis 🙂)
Keep your eyes open for lots of #planets in the night sky over the next several weeks (not just tonight)!

Venus 🌟 and Saturn 🪐 are in the SW at sunset.
Jupiter 👑 and Mars 🔴 are rising in the east at dusk and up all night.

All are easy to see, and Saturn & Jupiter look great through binoculars!

Looks like Comet C/2024 G3 ATLAS’s days may be numbered… the comet has faded & may have broken up post-perihelion as the nucleus fades from view, leaving a ‘tail-less wonder’ crossing the sky. Here's a great parting view w/ESO’s Paranal Observatory by Yuri Beletsky: www.instagram.com/p/DFF3LKtpIz4/

So how about an intense JWST image of a pair of colossal stars whizzing past each other and blasting out wave after wave of dusty shells, expanding away at a soul-freezing NINE MILLION KPH?!
