I dunked a cookie in my tea this morning. Held it under until the bubbles stopped. Thought of you.

consider making yourself or obtaining a grilled cheese sandwich today

SF WRITER: I wrote "All Glory To The Pansexual Socialist Space Republic" to explore radical alternatives to capitalism in a science fiction setting

SF FANS, years later: We need more non-political science fiction, like the classic "All Glory To The Pansexual Socialist Space Republic"
(me reading 1984)
god it’s so relaxing to finally have sci-fi with no agenda or message

Because they learn history as if it was SO long ago I remind my students that the only reason MLK lived before them is b/c he was murdered. When most undergrads were born he’d have been around 75. When I was born, he would have been in his early 50s. We all should have gotten to exist together.

in honor of the day, my favorite Star Trek story is the one about how Dr. King was the reason Nichelle Nichols didn’t quit after the first season because he told her how important it was for TV audiences to see a future where a Black woman engineer was right there on the bridge of that starship

America did a lot of terrible stuff to Dr. King, like jailing and abusing him and trying to get him to kill himself and killing him, but probably nothing so obscene as reinventing him in popular memory as some milquetoast whose primary concern was not hurting white people’s feelings.

I spent a few days mulling over a clever first skeet. I don't know why; I'm probably not going to do much of my own writing here, just reskeeting things that I like into the void. Whoever is reading this, I love you.
