This looks like a great place for a Science Fair!
BREAKING: Scientists are staging a “science fair” in the lobby of a Congressional building to tell elected officials about the critical knowledge the US will lose because their research grants have been canceled.

This will be devastating to State Libraries and library consortia and systems. The trickle down devastating impact at the local library will be felt as libraries shift budget funding to cover important community services that IMLS funded, through State Library programs and grants.
We now have the details of the federal 2026 budget proposal, and it spells the end of IMLS. The request is $6,000,000 to "conduct an orderly closeout of IMLS."

Whatever happens in the 2 court cases would be moot if this passes.

BREAKING: President Trump just fired our nation's Librarian. My statement here:

Well it’s something. But not much. “The Court will not, at this time, issue a TRO providing all of the relief sought
by plaintiffs. Instead, the Court will issue a narrow TRO preserving the status quo as of
this Order.” So no more shenanigans but there are no shenanigans left.
BREAKING: Judge Richard Leon, a George W. Bush appointee, issues a TRO blocking the Trump administration from "dissolv[ing]" the Institute of Museum and Library Services, placing any more employees on administrative leave, or terminating any grants in the coming days.

Dispatches from the library war front …
“I know a lot of people feel demoralized right now, they’re fed up with the polarized politics. But I hope that the role models in this film show them that you don’t have to succumb to fear and apathy. You can affect change on a local level.”

The IMLS Grant termination letters are coming after hours. This came at 7:24pm PT, 10:24pm ET. Do they feel better sending after 10pm like they can avoid the backlash? Fraidycats.

See what IMLS funding does for your community. Stealing this support is not patriotic.
An interactive map shows where IMLS funding is / was by state. I found this info very helpful for sharing locally about what such "invisible" support infrastructure provides for our communities. 2// www.imls.gov/map

The Alt National Park Service is fighting for all of us.
Thank you Alt NPS for your service! Our organization is in limbo on weather we will get reimbursed for $100,000 in IMLS grant dollars that we have already paid contractors for service. That’s how it works. The awardee of the grant pays project contractors for services and IMLS reimburses.

The letter that went out to IMLS staff today.
This is the email just received by IMLS staffers placing them on paid administrative leave for up to 90 days.

“Please understand that this action is not punitive but rather is taken to facilitate the work and operations of the agency.”
March 31, 2025 at 7:01 PM
We have current IMLS grants that were awarded in 2024 and continue through 2026. I hope we can at least get reimbursed for contractor work to date.
SCOOP: DOGE notified the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS) today that the entire staff is being put on administrative leave effective immediately, I’ve learned from an agency source.

They’ll be cancelling huge swaths of grants/contracts and starting a Reduction in Force (RIF).

Happy Trans Day of Visibility!

It was founded in 2009 by Rachel Crandall Crocker in Michigan and is now celebrated in countries around the world.

Visibility saves lives, gives voice to the voiceless, and offers joy and hope where scarce.

I thank God I’m trans. It’s a gift and a soul’s commission.
