Just submitted my LAST ASSIGNMENT for a class at UWSP. Now all that's left are my dissertation revisions, which hopefully won't be too terrible.

Yesterday I successfully defended my dissertation on Emotion-Symbolic Work in Community College Pre-Health Science Students. It was about healthcare waste! Hoping to have some more energy going forward to work on the Coalition. Once I get my revisions done and start my new job, that is.

Why is it that every time I have to log in to the Wordpress site I can't get to the right website? I apparently have multiple accounts, which, I understand about the one I used for Austin Comics Ladies, but the one I want isn't appearing. Grrrr. I was just in a couple of days ago & now I'm not.

The Central Texas Climate Summit today was awesome. Met some cool folks & connected with others I'd met before. Maybe even scored an awesome new board member!

Working on the final chapter of my dissertation has emphasized how important this organization could grow to be. Expect to have more time to work on it once I've defended. Definitely need some good board members to get things rolling.

Every story of public-health victory in the US comes at the end of a much longer tale of corporate manipulation and interference. Literally millions of lives destroyed or lost to prop up corporate profits and it all just goes down the memory hole. We act like these are success stories!

Sent out my first three emails re: interviews for my study. Hopefully I'll be able to find a time to meet with the students soon! I am excited but also nervous.

Extreme heat can age you as fast as a smoking habit.

A new study shows that exposure to high temperatures adds up to 14 months to older adults' cellular age.

If you want to stand up to fascists, wear a mask.

It’s one of the simplest and easiest things you can do to resist.

It protects your health, while also protecting disabled and marginalized people who are in grave danger from fascist policies.

I have to design and implement a social justice workshop but at my school would not be able to use that term, or DEI. I'm thinking about a workshop on sustainability for nursing instructors but IDK. This last elective is going to take up a LOT of time this semester.

There are 10,000+ of them
Some are toxic
They don't break down
They're here forever
They pollute water, air, soils, animals, you
They'll cost £1.6 trn to clean-up
Industry is fighting regulation hard

Stressed out beyond belief—like everyone for the next two weeks— but one thing I can do today is replace the black plastic cooking utensils that apparently have been poisoning us for over a decade. 🙃

Welcome new Bluesky users. Some etiquette guidelines:

- Reduce your emissions ASAP instead of setting distant plans

- Carbon offsets are fundamentally counter-productive

- Renewable energy deployment must be both fast and cautious

- Carbon removal that delays mitigation must be stopped

Thinking of Gord Downie today on the anniversary of his death. The Tragically Hip is one of my all-time favorite bands, and I saw them live twice here in Austin, at small clubs, which was incredible. I still have one of Gord's handkerchiefs. KUTX played the Hip this morning, which made me happy.

As a climate scientist, here’s 3 things I wish everyone knew:

1. How much of our current warming is human-caused? All of it + then some.

2. What happens from year to year? That’s weather. For climate, see decadal trends.

3. What’s the most important thing you can do? Not recycling; this ⬇️
