I took a very long drive for some round birds. These are Willow Ptarmigans up in Quebec, aka Awebo birds. I love them so much.

Marasmius sect. Sicci (M. haematocephalus group) photographed during last night's night hike in Pastaza, Ecuador. Broom cells on the cap give this species a unique texture - it was described from Brazil in 1837.

Northern Cardinal perched in a tangle of icy branches. I posted this bird the other day, but think a wider crop looks better.

There’s a quick lil snow dump today at Yosemite but alas, I couldn’t go. I was reminiscing scenes I’ve seen in the past and this one is still one of my favorites. This is probably one of my earliest shots I took almost more than a decade ago. When it snows in Yosemite, it is truly magic.

Eastern Bluebird perched on an icy branch. These small friends went through plenty of mealworms today! I had a stroke of luck with this shot, the color in the background is a passing train. 🪶

The mighty Tuftasaur taking a refreshing bath. What a surprise to see this little bird hop in a stream in the middle of winter. 🪶

Reminder: They're trying to demoralize you, and they're doing a great job of it. Part of resisting is making time for joy despite the attempts to make you feel this is not the time for it. Love your people. Dig the art that speaks to you. Go to the places where life flows into you. You deserve joy.

The Velvet-purple Coronet is a hummingbird endemic to the western slope of the Andes mountains from Colombia south into Ecuador. The bird appears all black until you catch it at the correct angle to show off deep purple iridescence. 🪶

Did someone say it's #mothmonday? How about N. America's largest species, Hyalophora cecropia or Cecropia moth. Click the photo for full view. This is a living specimen.

This is a female and they are enormous. #insect #bugsky #invert #macro #macrophotography #sciart #nature #wildlife #photography
