The thing Cuomo exploited in his political ascension was replacing crooked/disgraced Dems. He did it twice with Spitzer for AG and Gov. Prob thought he’d be rewarded the same in trying to replace Adams. Nadler is respected by many persuasions of the party and likely has a few preferred successors.

Should be noted that the HRC had a former Cuomo goon Alphonso David leading them until it was revealed he was helping Cuomo when the allegations started popping off. He was fired but the HRC absolutely knew the type of asshole they hired.
