All of this is true, and in addition, when we stop using AI art, it stops using water and electricity, but if we stop using human artists, the human still exists and has needs that must be met.
An AI datacenter devours enough water and electricity for a whole city of people each day.

A human artist only takes up as much electricity and water as any single human.

This is why, even if we settle copyrights and such, AI will always be immoral. Just pay a human.

This "haptic visuality" is what I've always meant by "texture" but didn't know how to talk about it. This is a fantastic video
This is a really remarkable video essay on contemporary film and the theories of Laura Marks. It's making me think about movies in a new way.

Her memoir, Year of the Tiger, is a fantastic and delightful read that is very Alice to its core, and flagrantly ignores literary convention in service to a good story. It is a story, a scrapbook, a manifesto, a call to arms, a tender and personal narrative.

the 'clubs' they mentioned are a thing that just does NOT exist anymore. I honestly think that's the biggest hole

like, clubs, or lj comms, or single-interest forums just do not exist. Today you toss fanart/discussion onto an open sea and pray other fans will see it and engage, and if not, too bad
